Based on the trailer, i wasn't sure quite what to expect, so let me make it more clear to those who are curious (without spoiling anything). While there are elements & clips & audio from many other sources, they are primarily just small bits added to the main story which is the original The Thing. Also, while the main progression & core story stays true, it adds SO many comic elements as to definitely recategorize this film as a "comedy horror". And my god, the humor got me so good. As a huge fan of the original movie, the humor never belittles that creator's work, but simply adds farce & inside jokes & unexpected quirks all throughout. This movie was the most fun I've had in a while. It was so fun, that the whole time I was getting ready for work the next morning, i frequently chuckled & laughed out loud as random crazy parts kept running through my head. That rarely happens for me.
As far as audio & video quality, I watched on my desktop computer in 1080p, but i didn't notice any problems in that limited context. Editing quality was top notch, breaking up the monotony with more flavor & flare in it's different styles of tangents.
I'm so happy I gave this one a chance. Btw, there are 2 feature variations. I watched & prefer "the Tranzor Variation". *IMPORTANT NOTE: don't pass up on the separate mp4 file of "deleted scenes & alternate takes." there is a ton of great stuff in there, including at least 2 sequences I wholeheartedly wish were left in the main movie. so good.

WOW! I agree with everything darth-awesome said below. I had an absolute blast with this edit! This is one of the most creative and inventive edits I have ever seen. Blueyoda demonstrates some truly brilliant editing skills, with some masterful rescoring, dubbing and cutting; often to hilarious effect!

The amount of easter eggs, references and joke cameos edited in makes this feel like John Carpenter's The Thing done in the style of The Naked Gun and Airplane! Pure, campy entertainment! WATCH THROUGH THE CREDITS! Great for viewing with a group of friends while drinking or enjoying other mind altering substances... speaking of which, the old school commercial breaks had me in stiches!

I LOVED this edit! The image quality was beautiful. The cutting was superb and brimming with creativity. I really dug the Tarantino vibe and the Leone touches. The surprise cameos were great. The Wilford Brimley subplot is hilarious. The deleted scenes were brilliant. A really fun watch and inspiring as hell. Edits like this demonstrate what an art form fan editing can be.

The kind of furiously inventive fanediting art that makes you a bit ashamed that've only managed to trim few scenes here and there in your own uninspired projects. Despite all the crazy ideas and source hopping fun, there is a rigorous fidelity to the new concept and story, that lessor editors (such as myself) might've missed. There was a moment with a POV shot over MacReady's shoulder as he pilots his helicopter over the ice, where I thought "Hey this looks exactly like the same shot from 'The Empire Strikes Back'. I wonder if Blueyoda will use that for a giggle", then I thought, no that would be inconsistent with his new story, it would just be a joke for jokes sake. Instead Blueyoda piles on diabetes joke, after diabetes joke, using sound, visuals and FX to make the idea live. The funniest joke in the edit was on the included subtitle track "Nauls respectfully turns off the music". It was almost a spit-take for me. Thanks Blueyoda for a real blast!
