Brief Synopsis:
After having been committed for over 15 years, Michael Myers escapes from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. He returns home to retrieve his killer mask (aka Shatner mask), and then we jump to Two Years Later and we are introduced to Laurie Brackett, believed to be sister of Annie Brackett. But, unfortunately for her, that’s not the case and her whole world will collapse within the following three days.
Intention:
I really liked the first half of Rob Zombie’s remake, the backstory. But then when Michael comes back to Haddonfield Zombie made the mistake of trying to re-create scenes from Carpenter’s classic. Instead he should have approached H1 in the exact same way he approached H2: make it his own.

The Myers Family combines the backstory told in H1 with H2 (making that movie the night He came home) and the end result is a version of Rob Zombie’s reimagining that really feels like a Rob Zombie movie, not some weird Zombie-Carpenter crossover.

So forget the Carpenter (classic) movie altogether when you watch this. Except for some of the characters names, the Shatner mask, some story elements, this is a completely original story.

Editing Details:
*Daeg Faerch is now the only “young Michael” Chase Wright Vanek is nowhere to be seen.

*Everything about Laurie having a breakdown regarding the events two years earlier is now gone cause the whole “shit-went-down-in-Haddonfield-two-years-earlier-aka-second-half-of-the-remake” is gone (though Laurie does indeed have a meltdown, but that because she turns into Michael Myers' mind state)

*The whole movie is now in the aspect ratio: 1.85:1 (that of H2) instead of H1 footage being 2.35:1 and H2 footage 1.85:1 I also added some grain to the H1 footage.

*The classic Halloween score is now completely gone (H2 doesn’t feature any so I had to choose between inserting some or change the score in H1 where the Halloween score does exist)

I had to give this film all 10s!!!! I really enjoyed and loved this version of both Rob Zombie's Halloween movies. While, I am a big fan of all the Halloween movies, I never really "got in to" Rob Zombie's version. With this edit, I felt like I was watching a new movie and really enjoyed it. Now, if there is an HD version out there, that would be awesome.

well what can i say?
i loved this cut, this is what i should have seen in the theater instead of a complete remake.
if rob zombie could see this i think he would be very pleased with this cut it feels like a rob zombie movie.
i always loved the first half of the remake but thought it just become a complete remake after that.
number 2 was a mess.
but this is what it should have been, steFANedit did a top job and this will be my go to version.
this is perfect for anyone that wants to see what rob zombie would have made if no one told him to go another way.

Rob Zombies Halloween films remain the better of the recent spate of horror remakes, probably because he tried to do something different with the character as opposed to the more familiar route. This combined edit gives a very different Halloween film with only small elements that we associate with the series. It would be interesting to have seen peoples reactions if this was the version they released in the cinema.

SPOILERS

at 1 hour and 52mins I felt it was a little long for a slasher horror film with many scenes serving no real purpose to the film. For instance the killing of the three people that worked at the strip bar were his mum worked. They wasn't any pay-off to these deaths as they never appeared earlier in the film nor did we see his mum being miss treated by the boss. At this point his dead mum is controlling him but there deaths were meaningless and only served only to add a violent scene into the edit.

the inclusion of this scene also had me confused as to what Michael has been doing for 2 years. After breaking out of the mental intuition Michael returns home picks up his mask we then cut to 2 years later and a now bearded Michael has been walking his home town for 2 years, we know it's his home town because of the death at the strip club. So it begs the question why has he waited 2 years to kill his sister?

Overall the edit is so solid in it's cuts and without any previous knowledge of the two films you'd be surprised to discover this is just a fanedit. This is a great fanedit that will be highly regarded for years to come

My Halloween scores parts 1 & 2 6/5
my fanedit Halloween score 7/10

When I first watched Rob Zombie's Halloween films, I was disappointed - in both films there was an excellent story fighting to make itself known, buried under studio-imposed foolishness.

steFANedit has, several years later, given us the film that I imagine Zombie himself wanted to make when he signed on to the project. The audio & video quality are excellent, as is the editing, and the new narrative is much stronger.

Honestly, now that I have this edit I don't think I'll ever watch the original releases of the film - this is a much better presentation of the material.

steFANedit makes pretty much all the right moves with this edit. Rather than just being a retread of Carpenter's film, the film now stands apart as a legitimate new take on the material. That said, I'm still not a huge fan of many of Zombie's moves...but what steFANedit has kept plays a lot better than it did originally. Recommended.
