Brief Synopsis:
This edit turns American Horror Story season 1 into a movie about the Harmon family.
Intention:
I thought the season was very strong and would make a really fun condensed narrative. It is very stylishly shot so I thought it lent itself to the format.

Editing Details:
I cut narratives which didn't further the plot of the Harmons or young Michael. I tried to keep the editing in the style of the show, which is very kinetic and jarring.
Cuts and Additions:
Here are whole plots excised:

- Violet at school, “scaring” classmate
- Hayden abortion, Ben’s trip to Boston
- First time Ben and Vivian have sex in show (so Rubber Man is her first in this edit)
- Home invasion
- Much of Moira as the young seductress though it’s there
- Trying to resell house is cut
- Chad and Patrick’s murder
- Amniocentesis
- Piggy piggy/Derek
- Beau was cut out due to so much of Larry’s story being cut
- Whole ‘Open House’ episode other than 1 scene
- Re-ordered so movie opens with Nora and Charles info from tour
- Rubber Man reveal is when he attacks Ben NOT before
- Chad and Patrick are cut
- Vivien getting committed is cut
- Alarm system install and Morris Chestnut are cut
- Billie Dean though we get her as a VO to explain the true nature of the anti-christ.

Well I've not watched any of the AHS, so I was ready to pass up on this edit, but my wife is a huge AHS fan and so we both checked this one out.

Looking from it from my POV, it was really well put together and the narrative so great to follow, my wife so also happy with the overall result of this edit, plus she also commented on the bits that were cut away wasn't missed.

Video Quality was a flawless HD, the Audio Quality was great, but got louder along the way and needed to turn the TV down towards the end.
Visual Editing was a funny one for me, I almost gave it a 6 because there was many fast cuts which I thought was the editor, but then my wife said that the editing is also in the show, which was find.
The Audio Editing was again very well put in, as I've not seen the series my wife was commenting on some sounds and music that was not in the series, but played out very well in this edit.

From the thoughts from both a non-AHS fan and a huge-AHS fan, this edit great for both sides.

Not having watched the 66series6, I wondered whether thecuddlyninja's condensed version would make 66sense6 to me, and it does. If the story elements didn't make sense the first time around, it was because the my6tery was unfolding; on a 6econd viewing of the edit, I knew how the puzzle pieces fit together. Though the major characters could have come acro666 as flat and undeveloped in such a condensed version, as presented they are fleshed out more than enough to tell the 6tory, thanks to the 6trength of the 6our6e material (particularly the acting) combined with ninja's judiciou6 editing.

I was hoping for a bit of a conclusion for one minor character, Larry the Burnt, but the edit works well enough without any follow-up.

One 6trange side effect of watching this edit: I've developed a keenne666 for dancing with redheaded maids while wearing late6 gimp outfits. I blame thecuddlyninja.

Through its highs and lows, I've been a fan of AHS since the beginning. I won't delve into my feelings on each specific season, but I've held Murder House in very high esteem for setting the bar so high.

I watched the MP4 version and was very satisfied with the A/V quality. It was rather dark in a few places, but the original show was very shadowy and contrasty to begin with. Visually the edit was exceptionally well put together. There was a single instance of a brief flicker of some missing frames towards the start, but given how great everything else was, I think we can overlook that. The audio was very well done. There were a few audio fades and transitions that sounded a bit off, but those could have very well been present in the original show.

Now, that's all well and good, but the real question you may be asking yourself is "how well did the story survive being trimmed down to an hour thirty-seven minutes?" A great question, with a complex answer. Just in case you were wondering, SPOILERS FOLLOW! Generally speaking, the story flows well enough. The connections between sequences are easy enough to make, but I do think things could have been fleshed out a bit more. For example, a sex scene between Vivien and Ben. But then when she reveals she's pregnant, he doesn't question why his wife is pregnant if they've never had sex. We know that he had an affair, but there's not much to show how it damaged their relationship and why Vivien seeing Ben as the Rubberman is so important. Larry Harvey (as portrayed by the wonderful Denis O'Hare) is set up as a somewhat major player, but after we see how he got burned and he helps Ben dispose of Hayden's body, he's never seen again. There are some allusions to what happened to Moira, but her story is never really explored either. Vivien also, suddenly, wants to move from the house, and Ben is completely behind her. But why? Nothing especially traumatic happened. She had a pretty bad nightmare (or was it?!) but that's really it. Again, a little fleshing out would probably have made the story just a bit stronger. That said, the Tate and Violet story was just as interesting as it was in the original airing. The pieces to Tate's story fall into place for the viewer as they do for Violet, so we are "along for the ride" as it were. The reveal doesn't feel cheap or gimmicky, and was very well executed.

But now, dear reader, you may be wondering "why did you rate your enjoyment an 8 with all those criticisms?" That's because I did genuinely enjoy it. The overall narrative could have been stronger, but minute to minute, scene to scene, I was compelled by what was going on, and reminiscing more than a little on first watching the series. I highly recommend this edit to AHS fans, as well as to folks thinking of dabbling in a TV edit. Yes, it's a daunting task. But this edit shows that it can be done, and done well.

Keep it up, Mr Ninja!

I am a huge fan of AHS and was eagerly awaiting this edit. I think The Ninja did an amazing job with it and even by taking out ALOT of the sex & gore it still left a great haunted house story. I didn't like that the burnt up guy didn't get a conclusion to his story and a little more of the hot version of the maid would have been nice :D but overall this is a great TV to Movie edit of Season 1 and I hope that the editor continues with the other seasons and makes them into movies also. Also the gost just popping up at the end to kill the dad seemed kinda out of place but with it being a haunted house I could suspend the disbelief for it
