Brief Synopsis:
I have trimmed a bunch in the first and second acts and completely rescored the movie with the wonderful work of Goblin.
Intention:
I wanted to change the mood and feel of the movie, particularly the first half. It's very much a jump scare/fake-out jump scare movie for a bit and then gets really interesting when we delve into the Further in my opinion. I wanted to reduce the jumps and change the music to make it feel more like a psychological thriller. Plus Goblin is dope, so I wanted to use their stuff.
Other Sources:
Multiple horror soundtracks: Zombi (DotD), Contamination, Suspiria, Buio Omega, Notturno and the "regular" Goblin record True Blood.

Editing Details:
I made the narrative trims I wanted to make first, then pored through all my Goblin stuff noting tracks that fit the vibe I was looking for. Goblin are fantastic at a lot of things but for this edit I was going for a feeling of dread. So I chose pieces that were generally not fast-paced (with some exception, of course) but more setting the mood of things being not right. I also was looking for pieces that kind of pulse and drive forward. I wanted the score to be very front and center (hence the volume levels) and drive the feeling of dread for this family. I also knew I wanted to repeat some tracks and motifs so that was in mind while I was going through the music, as well.
Cuts and Additions:
- Cut kids talking through cans
- Cut piano scare and baby on floor fake-out (obvious set-up)
- Cut conversation with Josh and Renai
- Cut Lorraine talking to Dalton (who's sleep-talking) and seeing woman in the white dress (it's repetitive and way too obvious when she finds Josh behind the door)
- Cut Dalton recounting the stuff with Josh (again, too obvious)
- Cut Lorraine telling Specs and Tucker about the night before. Specs and Tucker just found the video so they would logically invite Lorraine over there regardless
- Reordered scenes so Renai being fooled by the baby cries is intercut with Lorraine meeting with Specs and Tucker
- Cut Josh’s tooth falling out and him (Parker) talking to the Bride in Black
- Cut scene with cans. It’s a decent scene but I cut the earlier scene with the cans and the ghostly whispers audio and score were too deeply entrenched for me to make it sound good
- Cut some of Carl and Josh's back and forth so we go straight from suspicion to attack (no dice)

I like the narrative the way it’s edited, it works better. The pace starts slow and then accelerates, and when it does catch speed, it keeps accelerating into the conclusion, gripping the viewer.

The video editing was perfectly even.

The audio is more complex. While I loved how the new score (which was a great choice) integrates very well with most of the scenes, there were small portions of this edit where the audio clashed a bit with the dialogue, and the volume level oscillated because of that.

Overall, I really enjoyed it.

Ok... so I am probably in the minority here, but I always preferred Insidious 2 over the first one. I think because I always disliked the idea of the further being established in act 3. However, in this film, the further is already known from the beginning, and I always liked the story of the Bride in Black more than the fire demon.

Now on to this edit. Goblin's music is ICONIC. And I was really sceptical going into this because their music is really atmospheric and in my minds eye, I genuinely couldn't see the music fitting this movie. I am glad to say that I was wrong!

From the opening credit when the Suspiria OST was playing, I knew right away I was in for a treat! The use of Goblins music in this film even made it more emotive to me. Music always moves my soul and it is expertly placed in this fan edit!

This is the second Cuddlyninja film I have watched and I have been enthralled by both! I watched this last night, pitch place, headphones on and I think this is the way I am going to be experiencing Insidious 2 from now on! The editing was great, I knew scenes were missing, but they didn't take anything away.

Both The Man with Fire on his Face and The Bride in Black will be in my collection forever! And I'd suggest to watch them both! Excellent examples of Fan editing at its finest!

And if you feel like editing Insidious 3 and 4 and giving us two more bangers, feel free! ;)

Another top notch edit form Mr Ninja. While this one isn't a good as TMWFOHF it is still a damn fine edit. Shortening this down and adding the amazing Goblin soundtrack helped up the scare factor and losing the crappy jump scares made this so much better

Solid quality.

Editing: 10 visual, 8 audio
I didn't notice any visual cuts. Unfortunately though the audio editing felt a bit uneven. The volume level jumps and falls and the new music isn't perfectly integrated.

Narratie & Enjoyment: 8
I'm not a big fan of "Insidious 2" but this edit is definitely superior. I enjoyed the added Goblin music as I'm a big Goblin fan (see: "Scream - The Giallo Cut"), but the music didn't really mesh together well and I couldn't help but think "Oh here's a new Goblin track" whenever a new piece of music came on.

This edit is great
I love the added music of Goblin
I was for me a inspiration to use this music by my upcoming Hostel cut
Just like the one before the editor did a very nice job on this
I love the originals but i hope that the third one is the final chapter in this trilogy
I see to many sequels of the same thing in these series
But again: great job and this edit is permanently in my "Cuddly Ninja" folder
