I watched the extended edition of the first Avengers movie and thought the narrative didn't really work.

For this one, it's different. I must first say that the scenes do not change the movie that much, but the little things do add up for a more cohesive movie. The extra character development is welcomed.

I must say that, as usual, samspider seamlessly edits in the new material, and apart from the visible green screen in a Maria Hill scene, and the occasional shaky quality vs the Blu-Ray, it's really really hard to tell when or where it was edited.

As for the movie itself, 6 minutes of screen-time does make a difference, but it's not THAT important. The movie is still good (I am one of those who believe the theatrical is a good movie, very enjoyable), and having more scenes to watch is just better all around.

Thanks for making this samspider, and this should be the definitive version to watch. Any thoughts about filling the green screen scenes with something? It would improve this edit and make it an absolute must-watch in my opinion. Still, great work, thanks!

More Avenger-y goodness!!

Samspider3 clears up the whole "Thor Thing", clarify's the plot, and makes a overall good Marvel movie great.

This is the way it should have been in the theater, or at least, the director's cut that Whedon killed. Like flamino below, the Cap/Maria screen was a bit distracting, but upon a second viewing, I was more focused on the dialogue and completely lost the background, so it couldn't have been that big a deal.

Seriously, watch this one, and put your bluray away.

When Avengers: Age of Ultron first came out, many complained that the film felt "rushed" or that characters were not sufficiently developed. There was talk at the time of a "director's cut" or extended edition forthcoming on disc that might remedy this. Unfortunately, Joss Whedon squashed that when he burned out on the MCU and decided he was done with it. It probably wasn't going to happen anyway, as Marvel has not yet made an official extended edition of an MCU film.

samspider3 steps up and remedies this, to an extent. If you've seen any of his previous fanedits, you know that his skills as an editor are top of the line, and that excellence continues in his A:AoU fanedit. Edits are seamless, music cues perfect, dialog crisp. The HD presentation looked awesome on my 55" Samsung. With the exception of one scene, which I'll touch on later, it's as good as it gets.

If you read my review of samspider3's Marvel's The Avengers fanedit, you'll recall that I did not feel that the added scenes helped the movie. The exact opposite is the case here. The scenes added allow the movie a little breathing space, and give the characters some extra moments that help them build. In particular, the restored Thor/cave scene and the following scene where Thor wakes up Vision are vital to the narrative. So many people came out of the movie wondering what the heck Thor was doing; having these scenes reintegrated explains it all. The buzz was that the studio told Whedon to either cut the farm scene or the cave scene; Whedon chose the latter. But in the end both scenes are necessary.

The one scene that misses the mark a bit is a scene where Cap is talking to Maria Hill after Ultron's initial attack on Avengers Tower. The scene was unfinished, and the back of the stage and green screens are visible and distracting. Perhaps copying a background from a finished scene would help here (if possible) or just darkening the background so it's not as obvious. Or just leave it out; it's not as critical of a scene as the Norn cave.

All in all, this is now my go-to version of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The extra character moments are just what the film needed.

Yes to what everyone said! This edit seamlessly (save for one scene that contains green screen, but it's way in the background and isn't distracting at all) adds so much to this movie with simple 6 minutes! None of those minutes contain any sort of action that I can remember though, just character development, and that is VERY welcome! My preferred version of watching this flick now.

I absolutely adore the theatrical cut of Avengers: Age of Ultron. I think it's a genuinely fantastic film and one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's finest and most emotionally engaging installments, from its breathtaking action to its endearing character dynamics. What this fan-edit manages to add to the experience in terms of character development and story is nothing short of fantastic. Previously deleted material is integrated into the film near-flawlessly and helps strengthen the characters. It also really benefits the pacing. Things feel less rushed and the events flow much more smoothly as a result. Even when scenes enter lower quality than the rest of the picture and there's one instance of noticeable green-screen, the acting and dialogue are so good that it never takes away from the experience. I really loved this.
