I've never seen Terminator 3. I've not avoided it, but the opportunity never came up and since it wasn't meant to be very good I didn't really seek it out. I'd heard a lot of good things about this edit though, so I decided to go out and buy a copy of the film just to check out The Coming Storm. So, Uncanny Antman's cut is my first experience of the film.

Visual editing - Almost perfect. There was only one cut that I noticed and that was when a conversation between John and the girl suddenly ends (having read the cut list afterwards, I'm assuming this is where they kiss or talk about kissing or something like that). It wasn't actually a bad cut. I wouldn't go as far as to describe it as jarring, but it just seemed fairly obvious that the scene was meant to play out longer. I watched this with four other people who had all seen the film before (although quite some time ago) and none of them found the cuts noticeable. One person spotted the convo cut at the same time as me.

Audio editing – fine. Nothing noticeable.

Narrative – here's where things fall apart. Obviously, I haven't seen the original movie (which I will be doing just to compare), but from reading the cut list and a couple of other reviews it sounds like there were scenes cut that would be responsible for hindering the narrative. One of the main issues is that characters just keep popping up out of nowhere without being properly introduced. The girl (I'm terrible with names), her father and her fiance could all have done with an earlier introduction. Maybe the scene that does this was cringy, I don't know, but regardless, if removing a scene is going to hinder the narrative then it's better to leave it in IMO. The whole Skynet thing seemed a bit out of the blue as well. The terminator clearly uploads something to the machines, but we don't know what. Things just seem to start going wrong and it's not exactly clear why. I'm assuming this probably has to do with the virus plotline which the editor chose to cut out a large chunk of.

Enjoyment – Never seen the original, but this certainly felt like it could have been a lot worse. Reading the cut list certainly made me cringe at what I potentially could have been exposed to. My chief concerns were with the narrative, but outside of that it was quite a fun ride. The film itself is pointless, but it has a good ending and it kind of fixes the plot holes created in T2 (if Skynet is stopped then John Connor never sends Kyle Reese back and therefore John is not born.).

So, why did I watch this before watching the original? Well, I had no interest in watching the original. But this edit was supposedly meant to make it good. So I thought, if I'm going to watch it, I may as well watch a version that I'm more likely to enjoy. I was also just generally curious to experience a fan edit of something I had no familiarity with; to see if I could tell that it had been tampered with and if I could spot cuts without having knowledge of what would have been removed. Turns out the narrative suffers quite a bit, and I'm not entirely sure this could have been given the go ahead as an official release - then again... fanedit.org exists for a reason :P . Despite apparent flaws though, I did enjoy it and it's sparked my interest in the theatrical release.

I imagine The Coming Storm is probably much better than the original movie, but after reading the cut list I'm also fairly certain stuff that shouldn't have been cut was taken out. I plan on watching the original for comparison, and then I will probably come back and update my review. Would I recommend this edit? That remains to be seen.

T3 was always one of the movies that I use to say "so close – but yet so far"
This edit makes it a little closer for me. and is probably one of the best FanEdits I've seen for T3, but I still feel like its missing a few elements story wise and such.

Cutting out the introduction of Kate, Matt and her Father and then introducing her in the middle of the night from the vet call, just felt a bit awkward to me.

All the humor is cut, and while not all of it was good I agree, but there's a few parts where its almost needed to give your audience a little breath.

The only other issue I had with this edit was that it was SD and stereo. An HD version of this edit in 5.1 would of been great.

Being a FanEditor myself I hate giving harsh critiques like that, because sometimes its all opinion based – hence why we do these edits in the first place.

Overall this is a great T3 edit, and I did enjoy it and do recommend it.

Thanks UA, I'll be watching this a few more times – hopefully one day you can do an HD Version.

I found the lack of humour and overload of action discomforting, but I did enjoyed the linear storytelling and the dark tone of this edit. Technically it's a shame this edit isn't available in HD (although it's reported as such in a review below). The video is very dark and the stereo audio track has no center and surround in and out of phase for prologic and neo:6 decoders. I had to re-encode the file to be able to watch it smoothly and in the correct aspect ratio on my old 2007 HD television.

I really love Terminator 1, even though it lacks the production values and budget of the sequel, it has that raw style and uncompromising thrills and an undeniable originality. The sequel maybe not as original and uncompromising as the original but it manages to add some layers of themes and depth and just as important it offers closure to the story, so that in the end it manages to be just as awesome as the first part.

When Terminator 3 came I thought: "Why?" The story was so perfectly wrapped up, so why open it up again? Of course it was done to make more cash with the franchise.

The justification given in the movie itself: "Armageddon wasn't prevented, just postponed" was lame beyond measure. Still, if the movie had been awesome, I would have just closed an eye and enjoyed the ride.

But as everyone knows T3 was pretty mediocre, not bad like T4, but a pale comparison to T1+2. It wasn't as interesting nor as tense or deep as the previous outings, and the female terminator added nothing to make it worthwhile.

One of the main-problems was also that the main-actor playing John Connor is a douchebag and not nearly as tough and clever as the kid-version in Terminator 2.

So there are things no fanedit can fix, but Uncanny Antman made the best of what was possible. He changed the soundtrack to reflect more the one in used in T1+2, improved the pacing, reduced lame humour and turned the female terminator into a ruthless killing machine, as it should be.

As vultural stated in his review, he turned a mediocre b-movie, into a thrilling b-movie.

I enjoyed it a lot. The only problem I had was that it is in SD, and so it looked pretty flat and lifeless on my HD-TV.

Terminator 1+2 I rate with 9/10.

Terminator 3 is a 6/10-movie for me, and Uncanny's edit turns it into a 7-8/10-movie.

All of the technical aspects of this edit were actually really impressive, but I felt a tad disappointed with the narrative decisions made. While the new narrative choices weren't hard to follow, they just tended to not be as engaging as the original I felt.

The fact that we know less about what happens and/or has happened between John and Kate takes away from the level of engagement for these characters. On the whole, the decision to remove most of the cheesier elements was a good decision, but it leaves the film feeling a little sterile and bland. On the other hand I really liked some of the smaller inclusions such as the final shot, the new music during the stripper scene (which was a great callback I thought), and the editing of the television scene during the party.

Overall this edit was a little disappointing since I'd heard good things about it, and I'm a little torn over whether it's an improvement over the original and whether I would recommend this fanedit for Terminator fans. Having said that all of the technical aspects were near faultless and my only qualms were with the changes to the story and mythology of Terminator 3.
