Brief Synopsis:
Rise of the Rebellion is a light fanfix of what I consider to be the second best Star Wars movie currently released. This edit differs from others in that it does not drastically reduce the length, narrative focus of the movie or add any John Williams cues. Rise of the Rebellion seeks to restore heroes to the movie by slightly shifting their motivations and actions to produce a story that is filled with brave heroes and less distractions.
Intention:
Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie right after ESB. I found the planet title cards to be extremely distracting. We never had them before, why do we need them now? The story should drive itself, not the location. That's what DK's illustrated encyclopedias are for ;)

This edit is intended to clean up the few subjective mishaps in the film and present a narrative that isn't merely trying to be Star Wars, but IS. My main objectives were to add a crawl, remove planet cards, rescore certain scenes (with EU and Giacchino cues) make Chirrut less Kung Fu, Bodhi slightly calmer and more confident, making Cassian's demons internal and reducing Saw to a Lor San Tekka-Esque character.

Editing Details:
I began with the idea of simply adding a crawl and reducing some of Chirrut and Bodhi. As usual, the community challenged and inspired me to look at the film differently and to attempt edits that I had not intended to do (removing Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba). This edit also introduced me to Vegas' secondary color correction tool. This was used to color correct Tarkin and Leia's skin tones as well as removing Vader's red eyes from his meeting with Krennic and his surveying of the space battle. Cropping and sharpening tools used to remove the planetary title cards.
Cuts and Additions:
- New title cards
- Custom Crawl (this will be my Episode III of the prequel trilogy, so it indicates that)
- Custom pan down and Krennic shuttle flying towards Lah'mu
- Removed Saw opening up hatch to find Jyn (we only see the hatch begin to open)
- Removed Rogue One Title card, now hard cuts to Jyn waking up as if she was dreaming
- Removed Cassian's introduction scene
- Removed Bodhi's introduction scene
- Cropped scene to remove planet card during Wobani rescue (added sharpening to film)
- Cropped Yavin and Rebel Alliance planet cards to remove text (added sharpening to film)
- Removed second Bodhi scene where he meets Saw
- Color corrected Tarkin's skin tones
- Removed Bor Gullet
- Added tie sfx to transition from K2 to Jedha pan shot
- Removed Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba
- Added Battlefront Imperial track to Rebel ambush
- Shortened Chirrut's acrobatics and removed his "is your foot alright" line and human shield antics
- Removed the cut to Jyn and Cassian to connect the continuous shot where Baze fires at the stormtroopers
- Removed Chirrut's "are you kidding me" line
- Color corrected Tarkin's skin tones during Jedah DS firing sequence
- Color corrected Vader's eyes during his meeting with Krennic
- Cropped Eadu planet card to remove text (added sharpening to film)
- Rescored Rebel Alliance meeting with Force theme
- Removed Bodhi's stuttering when asked who is stealing the imperial ship
- Cropped Scarrif planet card to remove text (added sharpening to film)
- Color corrected Tarkin's skin tones
- Cropped scene with R2 and 3P0 to remove them from the shot and reworked surround track to eliminate their dialogue
- Rescored Star Destroyer collision (Scrambling the Rebel Fleet' airplane collision/crash sfx)
- Color corrected Tarkin's skin tones
- Color corrected Vader's eyes when he is watching the Rebel fleet be massacred
- Trimmed Vader's awkward hand gesture of choking rebel soldier and then motioning to fling him to the side. (it just looks too fan filmy for me)
- Color corrected Leia's skin tones
- Fixed audio volume transition into credits
- Added custom edited/fanedited credits
- Added grouped name credits to shorten credits and have them end on the the musical finale (the original doesn't for some reason)
- Added custom title cards to ending

Some small edits that definitely improve on the original. All the edits were flawless.

DigiModiFicaTion's "Survival Edition" (the alternative version from the same editor) is the superior fanedit for me, in terms of narrative.

Seamless edits which were subtle but allowed for the flow of the movie to work. I did not see any jaring changes and was impressed with the quality of the edit. There still seems some slower parts but I think that is innate to the overall plot.

Nothing too drastic in this edit, but rather a number of small changes that add up to a much better version of this inessential but nice-looking Star Wars entry. The pacing still feels somewhat draggy for a movie that has to introduce over a dozen characters and whose outcome we already know, and have for 45 years -- I feel as if there's a machine-gun/grindhouse-paced edit still to be made of Rogue One, but I hope when/if that edit is made, the editor uses DigMod's tasteful and much more Star Wars-feeling version as a base, rather than the original official cut.

Rogue one was, for the first time, something different to what we where used to in Star Wars films. I remember people around me commenting so and they where right. Unfortunately, for me, that wasn't enough to make me like it, no matter how excellent the visual effects or cinematography where. My overall enjoyment was around 5-6. At first I gave a try to "Rogue One: The Battle of Scarif" by eldusto84. Although technically an excellent edit and it actually succeeded in creating a 50min version of this movie without feeling like a mess, it was far too aggressive for me. I mean, if we didn't do that with "The Phantom Menace", we certainly didn't need to do this with this one.

Technical-wise, the audio and visual editing for "Rise of Rebellion" is excellent! I didn't notice or "feel" that anything was tampered with, in any scene. And that goes also for DigiModiFicaTion's version of this called "Survival Edition", where all the characters live at the end. So job well done here! Not that I was expecting anything less, having seen before "The Coaxium Heist" and "Thor: Ragnarok trimmed edition" by the same editor.

On the narrative side of things, which is the most important part for me, it was also a big improvement! More streamlined, less annoying parts and clever addition removing Saw looking down the secret hatch from the first time. Although, I'll have to agree with Wakeupkeo's review, that I feel the movie needed a biiit more extra trimming. It still feels too long. Otherwise, the changes where more than welcome!

So, this edit is reccomended to anyone who found the original 'ok' and above. If you did, this will be your go-to version! To anyone who did not like the original at all, I don't think this will do anything for you.

Thank you DigiModiFicaTion, thanks to anyone who read my review and may the force be with you!
