This is one of the better 3 in one edits of the prequels I’ve seen. It does a good job of knowing which scenes to leave in and which to cut out from both of the movies. The transition between Clones and Revenge is perfect and I was surprised at how well editing Attack of the Clones into 40 minutes worked. I really liked how you edited out the climax of Clones it worked really well. One more thing I loved about this edit is the text that appears on-screen letting us know which planet we’re on. It’s implemented really well and helps with establishing where we are.

While the new narrative works pretty well, but I do have some critiques for it. First off I like the idea of the opening scene being Anakin leaving his mom but the execution wasn’t quite there. Also, I love using the deleted scenes of Padme and her family, but the quality of the image is noticeably less good. This isn’t really a problem in the close-up shots and mid-shots, where the quality is not significantly lower, but it’s a huge problem in the wide shots where the quality looks way too blurry. The narrative improvement is worth the lower quality though but it has to be mentioned. There is also a really obvious edit in the Naboo scenes where the music cuts out way too soon after we see Anakin and Padme start their relationship, and again the cut right before they leave Naboo is too abrupt. However, that those are really my only issues with the edit is remarkable considering the amount of material that needs to be cut.

The Revenge of The Sith portion of the edit is edited near perfectly. There were a few minor issues with some scene transitions, specifically with the cuts between the Anakin and Obi Wan duel and the Yoda vs Palpatine duel, but that’s pretty much all. There was another narrative change in Attack of the Clones that I thought worked perfectly centered around Kamino, which makes me excited to check out the other two edits.

Well, I definitely enjoyed that. Not as radical a rethink as the other two episodes of this trilogy will prove to be, but I don't mean that in a negative sense, this feels like a very straight forward condensed take on the prequel trilogy. it's largely just the broad strokes of episodes II and III with an appetising minute or so of Episode I as the pre-titles, but this method probably works the best and doesn't try to cram so much in to a decent two and a bit hour runtime.

I quite liked how you cut down Episode II to the very basics, to the point I totally forgot that you did not include the final battle and repurposed aspects of it for the scene that both represents the Clone Wars and then bridges us into the Revenge of the Sith portion. Quite clever that.

Overall, it's a solid edit and a fine start to a trilogy.

While I love how Rogue One is implemented, and how the tale is structured, it still suffers from many problems. I almost just quit watching after the first 5 minutes or so, because we had to intense action scenes back to back. The audience needs a break. While I commend the work to try and make cuts in a film with as bombastic music as this seamless, it didn't work that well. You can really tell where the cuts are, and it takes you right out of the film. Thought the edit is still fine. I really like how we transition from a New Hope to Empire, even thought the death star sequence sadly had to be cut. Speaking of death stars, thank god there is only one now. Makes the tale far more focused, and makes it feel like a single film, instead of three cut into one. Would I recommend it thought. Sure, but only if you're interested.

This condensed version works quite well. Lots got cut out as would be expected distilling 3 movies down to a single 2 1/5 hour movie, but the edit achieved its objective. Lots of side plots and time spent on annoying slapstick are eliminated, instead focusing on the primary story arc: the Skywalker family saga.

A few niggles. The cold open felt a bit odd for a Star Wars film; I've spent since 1977 starting with the intro scroll, then starfield pan down entering the movie. The initial sequence felt a bit choppy. Also, I've grown accustomed to the now stereotypical wipe transitions, so a few transitions jumped out due to being different (fade to black, then fade back, iris wipe). As much as this was distilled down, the assassin chase through Coruscant seemed long.

That said, I like the recasting of how Anakin was located. While I miss the pod race, it's not needed for the overall arc and loses lots of time in extraneous side stuff. The new reason for finding him works well. It also eliminates the weird, creepy age difference between Anakin & Padme and his suddenly growing up while she didn't age so much. Now their story makes more sense and the creepy part is just due to Anakin's emotional issues.

While not a perfect edit for me, I am more than willing to overlook the little hiccups for the quicker-paced more focused telling of this story arc. It does seem like just one or maybe two movies worth of story (especially since almost all of TPM is gone and not missed), so this works well.

Subjectzero had fun playing in George Lucas' Prequel sandbox. Don't get me wrong, I love the PT, I grew up with them (OT is what I saw first at 4 years old, but I was 6 when I saw EPI).

I greatly applaud the great work Subjectzero did with PT. Dealing with one movie is one thing, dealing with a trilogy is another.

By removing a lot of lines/scenes, it let's viewers experience PT.

I really highly recommend it!

Now for Abridged II
