What an improvement! TM2YC's edit convincingly surpasses the original.

Audio / video editing is seamless. Amazingly, the only time a visual transition pulled me out of the story was more than an hour in when the aspect ratio changed from Imax to wide-screen. Upon rewatching I saw that I'd sat through several aspect ratio changes earlier in the movie. Without realizing it!

Narrative editing is top notch. Plot distractions are removed, strengthening the plot and keeping it clearer. While I love to see Nimoy and lots of Uhura, his removal and her tantrum cut do make the story better. This edit feels less Wrath of Khan reboot and more stand-on-its-own Star Trek adventure.
One narrative transition felt truncated: we lose Carol Marcus' explanation that she can shuttle to an asteroid to open the torpedo outside the ship. Perhaps that line can be inserted over her walking into the shuttle followed by the slow zoom-in to the bridge?

I'm curious to see other edits of this movie. TM2YC certainly sets the bar high.

Star Trek: Vengeance takes the already pretty good but very flawed Star Trek Into Darkness and makes it genuinely great, up there with the other two Kelvin Timeline entries of the franchise. The plot feels much more clear, without any unnecessary distractions like Carol Marcus' striptease or the more fan service-y bits and pieces. The changes I appreciated the most are incorporating the deleted scene explaining why Carol has a British accent and re-arranging the Spock hunting Khan bit where he's now chasing him to get his blood as opposed to wanting revenge. While I did enjoy Leonard Nimoy's appearance and the relationship tensions between Spock and Uhura in the original film, I had no problem with them being cut out for this edit as a means of keeping the story focused. This feels less like a Wrath of Khan wannabe and more like a standalone strong Star Trek adventure, and for that alone, I got a real kick out of this edit.

TM2YC has done an excellent job fixing the major problems with "Into Darkness," including some I hadn't thought were fixable (such as Kirk's demotion and Uhura's characterization). The FX work he's done to get some of these changes to work is nothing short of flawless, and I noticed no audio issues on my 2.1 soundbar setup.

Narratively, I still have my issues with the film, specifically Khan's magical healing blood and the "Wrath of Khan" remake B.S. with Kirk that makes the magical healing blood necessary to the plot, but the way it's been edited here makes it all much more palatable. And I have to say, bold (but very smart!) choice in cutting Nimoy from the film - I wouldn't have thought a fan editor would have the guts to do that now that he's sadly gone, but it is absolutely the right choice for this film.

"Star Trek: Vengeance" now it sits comfortably alongside the theatrical ST09 and Beyond discs on my shelf, forever replacing the theatrical cut with no reservations whatsoever.

A labor of love for the editor, who took painstaking care of using everything at his disposal to transform an uneven and careless picture into a much tighter and interesting action adventure.

I personally was a bit skeptic on how much could be salvaged but was pleasantly surprised to discover the film becomes something else once so much junk and nonsense has been ejected.

I really recommend it as the definitive version of the film (forget the other one) and as a fix for those who felt that the original had something going but never got around to materialize it.

This is an excellent example of making a disappointing movie better. I never hated "Into Darkness" since it's at least entertaining for the most part. TM2YC's fanedit removes the absolute worst parts and tightens the pacing throughout while retaining the core spirit of the film. It's still a cheesy flick with a horrible villain and contrite writing, but hey no it's no longer sexist and dumbo.
