I've thought for years that The Final Frontier was ripe for reappraisal. Dodgy FX and goofy moments aside, there is a lot to love about the movie. Not least that it feels the closest to a real TOS episode out of all six movies.

This edit basically confirms that Shatner was onto something all along. With the improved FX and those infamous moments removed you're left with a genuinely heart-warming and fun movie. Highly recommended for all Trek fans.

This is a tricky review to write. FanFixes are my favorite, and what this does for Star Trek V is nearly everything I didn't know I wanted. It's leaner, stronger; somewhere between a TOS episode and a TOS movie, with a dash of TNG. It rings true to Kirk, the vital and passionate James T. of the late '60s, not the relaxed cameo of Generations. BB succeeded in cutting something that came from the mind of Shatner.

Yet another fanedit of the highest quality from BionicBob. I took off one star because if the VFX were all professionally redone as a polished movie, it would be damn near perfect, however no longer a workprint --but who the hell cares?

It made me think, this one. I am usually an easy person to please, and always accepted The Final Frontier for what it is, another chapter with my beloves cast, and enjoyed it, warts and all. In general, when I am approaching a project, I would look to extend the movie as much as possible, just to have so much more! But, what BionicBob did here, is actually teach me that sometimes less is more. Man, how much the cuts in this one actually improve the movie, and give it more dignity. Take, for example removal of Kirk's fall at the beginning.... I am actually embarrassed, that scene was ever in the movie! Uhura's dance? For the love ofWhyyy?! 'Guess what I'm not going to be missing, going forward...

I love "new" fan created effects. I did not expect much in that regard, due to different origin of many of those, but they are singificant improvement over the original ones, that I never was fond of. They always seemed lacking, especially after gloriously updated SFX on TOS Blu-ray release. Anything close to that kind of love was never given to movies, until BionicBob and Wraith got their chance with some of them on their respective projects. The rest is history. This is my definitive version of The Final Frontier.

A really great improvement over a quite bad movie to start with. Most if not all the cheesy moments have been stripped away without affecting the narrative and some plot holes have been carefully addressed with all the means available (from the ST franchine and even from other movies in a very consistent way). Also, the poor VFX have been replaced with a varity of fan-made scenes. Those significantly vary in quality, but they have been quite well integrated (especially for audio).

Video and audio editing are top notch. Just as minor comments, I found the new title cards a little bit too intrusive (too big/mordern/sharp) and the new VFX scenes could have been integrated better with some additional color gradding/noise/soft effect to make them less artificial.

As for audio, I just noticed a minor jump in the soundtrack at 1:32:37, when Spock gets up from the chair.

Greatly recommended and, for now, my favourite version of the movie!

I've never disliked this film as much as many Trek fans. It's certainly not perfect, but there's so much to love for fans of TOS. This edit skillfully strips away worst elements of the studio-mandated 'humor' and uses fan-made SFX to fix the lackluster work that was done for the theatrical cut. If you're planning on revisiting this film, which Strange New Worlds looks to be recontextualizing, I'd recommend this edit. Excellent work!
