This was a fantastic edit.

I've had it sitting on a disc waiting for me to watch it for some time now, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. The original film had left such a bad taste in my mouth that it put me off Star Trek for quite a long time.

This edit redeems the original film, and then some.

A lot has been cut, many things have been rearranged. Nearly every cut and nearly every line feels natural and original. The removal of the B4 subplot was well needed and well executed. The inclusion of the new ending was amusing and served the film well.

The picture quality of the newly added deleted ending was significantly below that of the rest of the film. This is a real shame, because otherwise there would be little left to indicate that this wasn't the way the film was originally released.

As several others have pointed out, the flashback was slightly awkward, but it didn't feel unnatural. I've always found flashbacks in films to be slightly mentally jarring, and this one specifically was done as well as any.

The film is much more melancholy than the original, which might turn some viewers off, but I found it to be a fitting fair-well for the crew of the enterprise.

In the end, I was pleased. This was a great edit.

I had never watched Nemesis until yesterday. Man that movie was lame.
Thankfully Bob’s edit fixes the vast majority of problems with the pacing. It’s leaner, faster and much more thrilling.
And this is by far, technically speaking, the best Bionic Bob edit yet. All the cuts and transitions were perfectly executed (from what I could tell). Sure, the deleted ending is lower quality, but the content of the scene itself is what mattered to me. The final line of the film really made me smile.

Bravo!

Overall I enjoyed this edit of "Nemesis". Much of the filler subplots are gone (always a good thing) and what we're left is a tight film that moves along nicely. My main criticism with the film was towards the end when...

*** SPOILER ***

Picard is returned to the Enterprise by a device Data puts on him. This is shortly after the transporter fries and is told "that's it". Now, it's been a while since I've seen the original, so it's possible this transporter device is of Romulan design, but unless I missed it we never see Data ever actually pick this device up.

My second issue is after the Romulan ship blows up and Data is killed, we see Picard remembering Data giving him a data cartridge. Not only have we never seen this scene before (thus no reference as to what is actually happening) Data is also in non-starfleet clothes adding to the confusion. Again, perhaps I missed something while being distracted by my kids running around, but think if these scenes were explained I would have remembered. Because of this one scene I docked the visual editing a star as I think it would have worked better without.

The picture quality is just a bit below DVD quality with macro-blocking apparent in some scenes. While not terrible I would have liked a slightly higher quality. Adding to the lower rating of A/V Quality is that the audio is only stereo and not 5.1 as I've become accustomed.

Minus these minor issues I do think this edit is the better version of "Nemesis" and, if you're a Star Trek fan, it's worth checking out.

This is my second venture through Bionic Bob's Star Trek edits (V being the previous one). I watched the intro explaining the changes beforehand, and I'm pretty much in agreement with Bob's concluding thoughts on the edit. It's still flawed, but it's a definite improvement, and well worth checking out.

One of my biggest problems with Nemesis revolves around how many subplots there were. So I'm glad that the B4 subplot and the unholy Deanna Troi mind-rape subplot have been excised from this edit. Cutting those two out places nearly all of the focus on the Picard/Shinzon dynamic. And while that dynamic will never be one of my favorites in Star Trek lore, at least it's simpler and easier to follow without being bogged down by other things. I also appreciate that the ending for this version actually produced some irreversible consequences and came with a sense of finality, while also keeping true to the spirit of Trek. And I liked the alternate final scene as well.

I did say that this edit is flawed, though. I agree with a lot of other reviewers that a few of the structural changes were odd, and I also wished the explanation of Data's emergency transport unit at the end wasn't so out-of-the-blue in this version. But those changes feel so small compared to the good changes that have been made here.

All in all, this is a much needed improvement on one of the weaker entries in the Trek theatrical saga. Through a Glass Darkly earns my recommendation.

Great edit, well done! So much has been removed and the compact result feels like a really good two-parter like "The Best of Both Worlds" or something. Some quick comments:

- There's one transitional scene where the enterprise goes to warp with no sound effects, that was a bit odd

- Maybe I'm not remembering, but I feel like Troi had very few lines up to the point she was suddenly saving the day by sensing the Reman. It felt a little out of nowhere for her to be able to do this. I assume there's an explanation for it in the unedited film, but I suspect it's related to the mind rape scene and therefore I can live without it.

- Data having the transporter prototype on him didn't bother me and I could have done without the flashback, but I admit I tend to be pretty oblivious to plot holes. The flashback was tastefully done and mostly works. And others are right in saying there'd be some pretty big plot holes without it.

- I did not like the ending at all, even barring the obvious quality difference. I would have just ended the movie on the zoom out ship shot right after riker says he "can't remember the tune." The added deleted scenes after that I felt took away from the gravity of losing Data. Closing on the remembering Data scene is poignant and I think it would work really well. Not the traditional happy ending we'd hope for, especially for the last TNG-era movie, but it would have real depth.

I haven't mentioned much technical stuff and I don't plan to--the technical work on this edit is excellent. There were very few moments when I knew I was watching an edit at all. I remember many scenes from the original film and yet have no clue where they belonged. The edit is virtually seemless.

So yeah, a vast improvement over the original! A very watchable, even enjoyable movie now! Personally, I plan to just trim the ending and call it a day. Great work!
