This is the most professional fan edit I have ever seen. I don't know TM2YC personally, but I would not be surprised to learn that TM2YC's a professional film editor.

The movie is beautiful. The color pops and the effects are outstanding. Combined with the Goldsmith score and the high concept but sparse sci-fi plot, this feels like what a Star Trek art film would look like - less of a story and more of an experience. The narrative that is there has been deftly edited by TM2YC, who makes it as exciting as possible given the original material. And the opening credits are great. I guess I could have done more with a bit more character conflict between Decker and Kirk, but that's a minor quibble and is more a matter of personal taste.

As other reviewers have pointed out, opening the film on Vulcan was a brilliant move. This is Spock's journey and we see that so much more clearly now. Also, thanks for removing those awkward bits about Ilia swearing an oath of celibacy (wtf Gene...).

This film provides a nice bridge between All Our Yesterdays (my preferring stopping point for TOS) and The Wrath of Khan, as we see Kirk and Spock in transitory stages of their lives, with Spock finally gaining inner peace and Kirk beginning his midlife crisis.

It's no Wrath of Khan or Voyage Home, but this is the best this film will ever be.

Where to start?

TM2YC turns a severely slow-moving movie with good ideas into a tight, cerebral motion picture along the lines of 2001, a Space Odyssey (which ST MP was 'inspired' by) that continues the original Star Trek show, going in a new direction. The themes of dealing with change and becoming older (Kirk) works well with the theme of facing the unknown. Also gone are the distracting side plots such as the one with Ilia and the new Enterprise Captain (read for the cut list for full changes). Audiovisual wise, It was stunning, i was immersed in it completely, and this is probably the best looking version of the movie you'll get. The audio really gives it an unknown out of this vibe.
Recommended to all Star Trek fans, as TM2YC's version is the only movie to perfectly recreate the original Star Trek feel (Beyond was close, but was limited by modern blockbuster limitations) in my opinion. Also great for Sci-Fi fans who want to see a cerebral sci fi movie that reflects ideas from the 70s.

This is an amazing fanedit. I'm incredibly impressed by TM2YC's work. Instead of just making some trims, TM2YC goes all out to make every aspect of this film as best as it can be. Color grading, visual FX fixes/enhancements, extensive sound editing to make the world come alive. Bravo! This is a perfect example of a fanedit that should be released as an official Special Edition.

Whoa!

I still recall goosebumps at the first teaser poster and the cheers at the Empire Leicester Sq when the music started and the caption STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE appeared....and this edit had a near similar effect. Perfection.

It would be easy to over trim this or to saturate it with excessive sound FX, but here is where TM2YC excels in showing creativity with restraint.

This edit nails it!...all.

The AV is solid, the editing crisp and the audio super. The colour and visual FX fixes are marvelous. The narrative; engaging. I've done 2 edits of this for my own consumption...a 50 min and a sound enhanced one...and this is far better. I found that this just perfectly extracted the story and tone of classic trek like no other edit even though original music from the series was avoided...and rightly so.

I for one will have trouble watching the originals now and this now sits in the BD case with the original (of which I have 3 versions on DVD and one on BD).

If you are a STTTMP maligner, you owe it to yourself to watch this...on a big TV and big sound system at full pelt. It is the definitive version in my humble opinion.

I can't add to what has already been said apart from BRAVO!

I have always had a soft spot for this film, having seen it when it first came out with my family at the cinema. As a pre-pubescent boy, I was slightly scared by a briefly bearded McCoy and slightly turned on by a near naked bald woman. Having watched it several times since, both emotions still remain, strangely.

So it is with great relief to discover that TM2YC has done an amazing job with this film. Reading the cutlist and having followed the in-the-works thread, I'm in awe of what has been achieved here. It looks great, with only a couple of noticeable SD elements - but I have to agree with their inclusion. Plus it sounds even better. It's a superbly polished edit, and it zips along much better for the cuts. The Kirk/Decker dynamic is particularly good.

If, like most people, ST:TMP left you a bit cold, you should do yourself a favor and check this edit out. If nothing else, you might find yourself being slightly turned on (bald woman or bearded medic. Your choice. I won't judge).
