I am not familiar that much with the grindhouse style, so this edit was kind of new and fun for me to watch. It felt like I was watching a different movie than Alien. It was engaging and well made. I only had minor issues with the new narrative! I don't think it was necessary to add nudity in that movie, but I guess it fits the style! The new soundtrack is interesting. The new opening is good.
Video Quality: I removed points here because it feels like the alien was added to some scenes with a bit of a clunky effect and the nudity was also clearly added from another source. I think I was a bit distracted by that more than the visuals...
Narrative: It was cohesive. The new B story line for some parts was interesting novelty but I missed some character closure.
Enjoyment: It reflects my previous points and the fact that I still prefer the original movie.
Overall it was a very fun watch and an interesting way for me to discover new grindhoused movies.
It's clear Gieferg is an experienced faneditor and this movie is technically well done.
I recommend for those who are not Alien purists and wish to enjoy a fun way to watch that doesn't take itself to seriously!

Watched this today and found it overall a lot of fun. The grindhouse style allows all sorts of licence to be taken with sources and plot, and that is certainly in evidence here. Some of the deleted footage used helps give the movie a feel of being a slightly ropey 70s movie (after all, that's why footage often gets cut - it's not good enough!), The more visible (and risible) Alien creature shots also help this, dragging the tone down closer to "Xtro" territory, The addition of a little gratuitous sexual content works well to help evoke a low budget 70s feel too.
The music tracks are the main feature of this edit. For me, they work well except for the climactic battle. To this point, the movie felt very 70s to this pop music ignoramus, but then the selection for the finale jarred badly for me, it was SO 80s.
If the tone of this edit was slightly tongue in cheek to start with, for the final few minutes the tongue bursts right through and wreaks havoc!
Recommended.

In the original, the script takes a lot of time to establish the different characters, and takes almost half an hour for this.
Without this effort and the mood building, the original could have quickly gone into a trashy direction.

This edit gives us a taste of how quickly the overall mood can change when an equally important device like the soundtrack would have been different. Little of the previously claustrophobic mood remains and I found myself well entertained, almost relaxed by this edit and its music.

My only criticism is the pacing in the first half. In my opinion the aforementioned character building is not needed for a grindhouse film.
Funnily enough and despite the filth effects, I really enjoyed the opening sequences. As the hi res picture quality was still far superior to the worn out vhs on which I first saw this movie.

After seeing Gieferg's Three Effing Bears and the trailer for Star Beasts the day before, I can't help myself but automatically compare the films. So I like Gieferg's take on Rambo better (10 out of 10) - but Star Beast has a lot of qualities too. However, I wish that Star Beasts will be realized and becomes similarly over the top as Three Effing Bears.

Just to emphasize it - Star Best is a great edit and I will watch every edit from Gieferg from now on.

A great edit of a classic!

The Soundtrack really set the perfect tone for this version of the film. The great visual editing really added to the grindhouse aesthetic with that opening trailers bit being the cherry on top!

This edit is a great time. It's for those who either enjoy the Alien franchise, and just want to see a slightly different take on one of their favorites, or those who love the grindhouse style of movie. It also has trailers for other fun fictional (I think) fan edits to give you a real grindhouse movie experience. It's definitely a fun ride that I recommend.
