the original sinister was a good movie but Agent Sam Stanley has taken an already great movie and improved on it, by cutting away the fake jump scares has really bumped up the creepy factor of this movieand by re-ordering a few scenes and removing the villain made him more treacherous and more of a puppetmaster lurking in the shadows. if you were scared by the original rewatch this edited version and you could be scared all over again.
I really liked the original (especially for the soundtrack), but agree that the numerous clichées and red herrings somewhat watered it down.
Luckily, Agent Sam Stanley has done a great job at removing most of those. A perfect example of "less is more"...
The editing also gives it a new narrative, which is very enjoyable.
So whether you liked or disliked the original, definintely give this version a try!
I had a love hate relationship with the original sinister. Liked the concept but I didn't like how often you see the threat and how many god damn jump scares there are. This edit changes the film to be less jumpy (There are still some jump scares) and more suspenseful. I enjoyed how underplayed the ghoul was. I'm gonna leave my review at this, just watch it.
Sinister has a great premise, a writer finding a box of haunted super 8 films is certainly interesting but the execution didn't completely land due to some Clichés scenes and overdone humor but this edit fixes these problems, for example, removing the son's sleepwalking fakeout and making the Deputy a more competent character. There were no noticeable cuts or audio issues for me so no complaints here. Overall this is a great edit that fixes a lot of the movie's faults and makes it more enjoyable.
