Brief Synopsis:
My idea is to get rid of all the fake build ups/red herrings and dumb jump scares to turn the film into a more focused supernatural thriller. I also removed most of Bughuul's appearances and made its presence more subtle. I think the way the original cut overexposed the character made its figure less scary. Also rearranged a few scenes in a way that things would make more sense.
Intention:
Turn a horror movie filled with jump scares and fake build ups into a more serious and focused supernatural thriller.
Special Thanks:
Thanks to IFDB user gazza who gave me some valuable tips on how to improve the edit.

Cuts and Additions:
- Moved the scene of Ellison watching his old interview about Kentucky Blood to the first night in the house.
- Removed false build up scene of Ellison hearing someone moving and finding Ashley looking for the bathroom. Also, scene of Ellison and Ashley talking in her room right after that moved earlier in the film.
- Ellison phones the police immediately after watching the first reel of film instead of after the second.
- All of Trevor's 'night terror' scenes were removed (stupid red herring).
- Removed some of Deputy So and So's 'funny' remarks.
- Removed most of Bughuul's appearences, especially the 'scary' ones. I don't find it scary and makes its presence less mysterious and scary.
- The two nights Ellison wakes up and finds the projector rolling were merged into one night. Also removed the stupid scene of the child ghosts running around him.
- Removed the shots showing "Extended Cut Endings' written on the envelop. Too dumb.

Loved the original one, but you managed to make it better. Getting rid of all the useless jumpscars to concentrate more on the story was a very smart move, the movie now is more creepy than ever.

I had a love hate relationship with the original sinister. Liked the concept but I didn't like how often you see the threat and how many god damn jump scares there are. This edit changes the film to be less jumpy (There are still some jump scares) and more suspenseful. I enjoyed how underplayed the ghoul was. I'm gonna leave my review at this, just watch it.

I saw the original Sinister couple of times and overall it's a pretty scary movie. But this edit made it so much better. When the original tried to imply that there is an actual supernatural dude playing around, in this version you left to interpret things the way you want. The threat became very ambiguous, and that's the kind of subtlety i wish more horrors had. Great work!

I picked up "Sinister" a month ago and, before watching it, stumbled across some reviews of your edit. With the reviews all pointing to your edit as the much better version, I decided to watch your take on the material.

What I found was a horror masterpiece. I don't remember seeing a horror film as oppressive as this one in years and your edit did it without playing cheap tricks. Despite the shortened runtime, it felt like everything had a measured and logical pace. The success of this edit makes me think there must have been significant padding with the theatrical. The image and sound were also flawless and helped establish the foreboding mood.

I'm looking forward to also watching your "The Vanishing" edit. I also hope you do some other horror films in the future, as this was fantastic.
