Sheriff John Quincy Wydell: Devil Hunter

Excellent video quality for a DVD version. No jarring cuts or plot holes... my only quibble would be mentioning the film critic and then not showing his scene. I was looking forward to seeing how this ended and, woah, he won! A great, alternate version to watch, especially if you aren't viewing this back-to-back with House of 1000 Corpses.

The horrormovies House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil Reyects are on my list as a Double Feature
But this one is really my favorite edit
I must say that this cut is great in every way
This is a example how a edit must be
I love the character of Widell played by the always great William Forsythe
But what i like the most of this edit is that Wydell "Wins"
A great ending
One thing that was cut out was his admiration for Elvis Presley, because i am also a big Presley fan so that scene was very funny to watch in the original and too bad that this was cut

my first reaction to devil rejects was a little mixed when i first saw it, i liked a house of a 1000 corpses and i guess the tonal shift in the devil rejects through me off a little. subsequent viewings however have made me see that it's more of a spin off rather than a traditional sequel. the characters from the first film feel like their in a different genre this time. the last i saw the film i felt it would benefit from having footage cut, modern grindhouse films can be a little over-long and can benefit from a shorter runtime more in line with the older grindhouse films.

i watched the B/W version as this the third time i've seen this movie and wanted to experience it in a new way. it's a great new way to see the film the B/W adds a new layer of grittiness, and i 'd highly recommend anyone to see this version. the editing and audio is seamless throughout and the accompanying commentary tracks kept me entertained throughout.

now my view on the ending is this, the firefly characters i felt in the original film had an epic death an almost "hero" death if you will. throughout this film and the previous film i wanted to see them die in the same way they would inflict on their victims. the original film didn't accomplish this for me the lynyrd skynyrd song and the shoot out as i mentioned was too epic and it wasn't the ending i wanted to see.

tranzor with the footage available has managed to give a new ending that i feel fits much better with what we see throughout the film. the removal of tiny is nicely done as i always felt his character felt a little out of place in this movie when compared to 1000 corpses

many fanedits i view as alternatives to the original this however i would see as my go to version when it comes to re-viewing the devils reject.

I thought this was a pretty awesome edit. Devil's Rejects is the only Rob Zombie movie I really like so I enjoyed this cut down version. I thought the title was slightly misleading as it's still focused more on the Fireflys than on Sheriff Wydell. But everything was well edited and it played out very well.

I sampled a little bit of the B&W version and it looked good from what I saw. And I listened to about a half hour of the commentary and thought that was sweet.

The Devil's Rejects is a enjoyable movie but there it stops. Would it could have been is though provoking. Zombie kills that by making the bad guys the cool guys.

After "House of 1000 corpses" was released Rob Zombie said in a interview something like, "with Scream and all those movies the killer became like whatever and it was all about the teens and will the teens survive and ohh my god. Who cares, we don't want to see the teens survive, we only want to see the villains survive because they are much cooler." He says in the commentary track for TDR, during the mirror scene with the sheriff intercut with the Firefly's partying, "what are the sheriff doing? He is sitting alone. The righteous man is a lonely man apparently...do you want to be the good guy sitting alone going nuts, or do you want to be the bad guy that are at a really good party." yeah but see the problem is that the bad guy is a sadistic necrophiliac maniac that couldn't care less about another humans life (unless you are a "member" of the firefly clan) are we suppose to have forgotten about the Banjo and Sullivan band that was murdered when the free bird end scene comes?

Tranzor takes care of all that and now the bad guys are bad guys, the line kinda blurs between good guy bad guy when Sheriff Wydell caries out his revenge but he needs a lot of booze to be able to go through with it. And he was crying.

Even if you are a fan of the original movie (I am) I think you should give this a watch (it didn't win Fanedit of the Month for nothing) now it sort of is a consequence-story following the first movie, "You thought that the people in 1000corpses was hip and cool, well think again."

Some of the dialog that was taken out could have been kept IMO. Like Jimmy talks about rodeo clowning, now that scene start later and Jimmy goes, "thanks for talking," to Roy. And I go "about what?" Also when Baby does the "Chinese Japanese"-thing and Otis asks Roy if he stares at his sister and thinks bad thoughts, Roy says no and then Otis asks why he doesn't, "are you a fag?" That wasn't over the top silliness, which was Otis doing his psychological abuse thing.

The editing was good, nothing to complain about. Audi/Video was for the most part as the source material, a few times there were interlacing but not much, and we are talking a second here, a few frames there, so all in all nothing to complain about but worth mentioning.

This release is a dual-layer DVD that comes with two versions. One black&white and one color. I liked the color version the best. Tranzor has also recorded a commentary track which I found interesting and there were few silent parts.

All in all a very good fanedit but I don't know if it replaces the original version, kinda comes down to what you want out of the film I guess.
