Discovered the film through this site, never seen the original and (going by what others have said) I have no wish to.
From the positive reviews I was expecting a decent experience but was surprised at just how much I enjoyed it, in spite of the comparatively light tone (for a war film) and larger-than-life aspects I found it properly engaging with the story kept grounded by the cast and free of distractions by the faneditor.
Against other films with broadly comparable in setting and story I would rank this edit over many that have been theatrically-released, thank you SeventhWard for your work!
