The 2005 cut of this film was a travesty and deleted many great sequences, but added some really good scenes and shots in the process. These scenes were added back to the longer and better Turner Preview version.

Editing Details:
- This DVD was re-authored by CBB with all new menus and cover art to even improve on the impact of this fanedit. Enjoy.
- Also it should be noted that the original version by Leonenut is DUAL LAYER and is available as such on the newsgroups. CBB found the length of video and the small audio track sufficient for a high quality shrink with DVD Rebuilder 7-pass. This is probably the best SL version of this you will ever get. A difference to the DL should be hardly noticeable, but of course the video was re-encoded.
Cuts and Additions:
– Shots of Billy walking to the outhouse
– Scene with Garrett and his wife
– Establishing shot of Garrett in the Raft scene
– Scene with Garrett interrogating the whore Ruthie Lee

I enjoyed this very much after my disappointment with the 2 Disc special edition.

Leonenut, unlike Seydor, respects Peckinpah’s vision and gives us the most complete and honest version of Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid available.

I am glad the most moving and memorable moment in the movie, Slim Pickens’ death scene has retained the original Bob Dylan score. It surprised me that Seydor used the vocal version in the 2005 version because Peckinpah was clear as to why he did not want to use it.

The image and audio quality of the DVD is great. I only noticed one small unsyncopated audio transition, which is hardly noticeable. BUT there is one big nasty cut towards the end of the movie where the beginning of a line is cut (Pat & Co approach Sumner). It is a shame that this one mistake comes so late in the picture because all before it had been perfect.

Still very recommended if you wish to see a version as close to the one Peckinpah himself showed for his friends at home.

I am an extended edition buff and have a big collection of original ones and all the fanedits from here.
Many extended editions do not add anything to the movie, just add more useless scenes. I will rate the ones here.
