Overview - Mr. Willins takes three apocalyptic films, “The Mist,” “In The Mouth Of Madness,” and “Deep Rising,” tosses them into the chopper, and makes a dark homage to “Love Actually.”

Video - 1920 X 1080 m4v. Note: My setup could not handle m4v, so I converted to mp4. Some of the edits here are audacious. The jump cuts, in particular, are inspired and jaw-dropping. This, for me, is one of the best aspects of this edit.

Audio - 192 kbps AC-3, 2 channel stereo. No subs. Depending on the source material, the audio ranges from good to murky. Much of “The Mist” is a pain to understand, and Sam Neill’s mumblings during “In The Mouth” were not worth replays.

Narrative - Three different films that do not link or mirror each other. Sorry. The tones vary, as do the “look” of each. One is a talkfest, one is an action ride, one is the dark plunge. The Beach Boy numbers do not serve to unify proceedings, either. Plus, for me, way too much time was spent on “The Mist,” the least compelling of the trio.

Enjoyment - Mixed. I appreciate what the editor was attempting. Full marks. This is a fail, though. There should have been other or different films used, where the same actors would be seen in other roles, hopefully engaging with other actors used in this mix. I have enjoyed works from this editor before, but this one does not work for me.

A very interesting take on 3 very different monster movies. You've made each film flow smoothly into the next, with each them reaching a climax together. I did remove one star for audio editing, due to what I feel was overusing the Beach Boys music. Otherwise, I did enjoy this edit as a late night monster flick.

This was much fun. Really cool. The cut made three crappy, boring movies into something much more than the sum of their parts. The best possible way to watch three different movies at once. I wish there were more edits like this floating around.

Wow.

My expectations were pretty low with this edit taking three mediocre films and weaving them together with a cohesive narrative and making it watchable I thought couldn't be possible... but I was gladly proven wrong. JobWillins pulls off an impressive job adding much more style with the songs and editing that it really enhances the themes and narrative for all three movies. The montage sequences at the beginning and the end was also fantastic. The juggling of all three narratives was well handled though The Mist did get a bit more spotlight then the other two movies but I feel like that was the right choice as the emotional core of the movie was there. My only nitpick for this edit would be the mid credit scene where the 3 survive from Deep Rising and make it to the island- though its a doomed survival I still would've preferred for the scene to be cut and imply their doomed lives on the ship in the end montage. Overall this edit was fantastic fanmix and an easy recommend.

It almost wierd how the songs and style of Love, actually fits to these three films. The contrast of song and visuals has wierd undescribable style. I love so, so much ending and begininng montages. Overall it's really great and I really enjoyed it. It's so random idea and I have no idea why it works. I haven't seen much Fanmixes, but this is propably the best i have seen yet. It has kinda end of the year/world kinda vibe. I have two little complains, which I don't know if they are fixable. I kinda feel wierd about the dream "pig cop" sequence in In the Mouth of Madness. I get it's a fake-out scare and it's memorable scene, but it just kinda threw me of. Also I kinda miss the restaurant scene from that film, but I get why it's cut. Second and unfixable complain is camera-work in The Mist - it's completly different from those other two. A lot of shakey cam instead of slow dolly of the others. But those are just a minor complains, at the end I really love it and I would recommend it.
