Only at my most nit-picky does this edit just miss a perfect mark, and by the smallest hair. This is a well put together extended cut which Wraith takes up an extra notch with the added bonus of a visually striking opening credits sequence. It's almost technically flawless, as I did notice one audio hiccup during the final song where a couple extended shots were inserted. Also, I (barely) noticed some compression artifacts during an extended scene, but I don't know if that's a limitation of the original deleted scene quality or introduced in the process. Either way, it only briefly distracted me for a moment and I didn't notice it for the remainder of the film even when I was looking for it. The only other distraction was the small logo in the corner during the added footage, and while I understand its purpose it took me out of the film a bit. Narratively the extra scenes all make sense and fit in their placement, however they mostly don't add much to the film for me. Personally I prefer the theatrical version, but as an extended cut Wraith's edit certainly gets the job done and then some (that opening credits flare!).

Edit: After a closer look, I believe the extended/deleted scenes just aren't quite at the same visual quality of the film and Wraith's edit is at or near the a/v quality of the available sources, so I updated the score to reflect that.

the 2nd work i've seen from Wraith, and i remain impressed. i only saw the original once when it first came out on rental, so there are many details i wouldn't remember are deleted scenes, etc. all i know is what this particular experience was. and i know i appreciated it more than my memory of the original. the inclusion of the deleted scenes (& who knows what else) was so seamless, that i only caught 1 or 2 of the SLIGHTEST glimpses of what might be edits; so tiny that a casual observer not TRYING to notice would ever notice. i may not like Rian Johnson personally, but the dude can write a good script (that's not part of a pre-existing popular franchise), and Wraith sure can improve the released product. a wonderful story made... uh... wonderfuller...
Wraith, you did one helluva job polishing this gem. thank you for sharing the link with me. it will be my go-to for future rewatches.

Thanks for the review and I'm so pleased you enjoyed this. I do not do many extended versions, but this felt like it would genuinely benefit from, as you say, some polish (and new opening titles)...ROLL ON THE SEQUEL , I say...

I hadn't watched Looper in a few years, it's one I own that I've always wanted to like more than I originally did and kept meaning to revisit it to see if a 2nd viewing would give me a new appreciation for it. I saw that Wraith had created an extended edit, so I figured that would give me a great excuse to finally rewatch it. Similar to another reviewer, I didn't remember all the details of the film and really had NO idea which scenes were added to the film (great editing!) After watching the edit, I went back and watched a video of just the deleted scenes and was really surprised that a lot of them were not used for the original film. As far as I can tell, it looks like Wraith added the "YEAR ONE" etc... on the screen during the part where they show Joe's life from the present day to the last day when he's sent back to the past, which I thought was genius. A lot of those deleted scenes really added to the story and really gave me a better understanding of who Joe was/is, I wonder why they were cut from the film?

My final thought is that I now have a new appreciation for this film and like it much more than I originally did.
If you are planning on watching Looper in the future, this is definitely the version to check out... great job Wraith!!!
