Audio/Visual Quality: Always an odd one to rate for a grind house edit - picture was actually pretty good, considering the concept. I know that the picture and audio deteriorates during deleted scenes, but I believe this worked in favour of the edit and enhanced the experience. In fact, the only reason I give this a 9 instead of a 10 is due to the fact that at times I felt that the video quality was almost TOO good. IMO it wouldn't have been a bad idea to degrade the footage even more to match the quality of the deleted scenes.

Visual editing: Excellent. Jarring visual cuts are there on purpose and benefit the experience. Titles, SFX etc. are all wonderfully done.

Audio editing: Once again - the jarring edits work. The little jumps/repeats on certain lines are a nice touch as well as the odd added piece of dialogue.

Narrative: Well, it works, and I'm not complaining. There are redundant scenes, but then again - maybe that's part of the point? Pacing could have been better, and I wouldn't have minded some more extreme changes to some scenes, but all in all this is a beautifully degraded alternate version of the film.

Enjoyment: I enjoyed this. I'm not a big fan of the original, but I do like it, and this was a fun alternate experience. I loved what was done with Quints tale, and the ending - I was expecting a grand explosion (which wouldn't have gone amiss), but what followed instead was nothing short of brilliant. DVD was nicely put together as well. Lovely stuff.

So I finally got around to watching this edit. This was a fun edit to watch. I liked most of the music selections. The amount of film "noise" and scratches etc. were not overly distracting and after awhile I didn't really notice it.

I liked the zoom in of Quint at the town hall meeting. The stutter =/repeat frames and audio, was a nice touch, and it was used sparingly and spaced out enough that I felt it wasn't overused. The USS Indianapolis footage was a cool sequence.

The two things that were worth the price of admission, so to speak, were:
1) The inclusion of the deleted scene of Quint at the music store buying the piano wire. I really don't know why they cut that scene from the movie.
2) The ending, I laughed.

I liked the DVD Menu designs and the drive-in theater transitions at the beginning and end.

As others have mentioned the narrative is a bit slow and the movie could have been shorter, but maybe that's just my short attention span and self-diagnosed ADD.

Anyway, I highly recommend this edit!

JAWS – The Sharksploitation Edit by THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK

review by boon23

Prologue:
I feel I am a bit late to the party, yet I did not get to watching this fanedit until just today. The last time I watched JAWS is about 5 years ago, so I could get in fresh (which was for this fanedit not so necessary though). Now everyone so far was praising this fanedit, which kind of held my expectations for it very high. I was watching the PAL DVD.

As for all my reviews: this is just my personal opinion of this fanedit. I cannot tell anybody else, if he or she will experience it in the same way or the opposite. So my review is not objective and does not reflect the opinion of fanedit.org.

!!!!This review contains heavy spoilers!!!

The edit:
It’s as special as it gets, from the very intro beginning (including a cute Rob Schneider scene) to the very ending (where I was almost waiting for someone to yell “Willy”). This fanedit was not at all created to be taken seriously and that is the fun of it. It takes a masterpiece of movie history and turns it not just to trash, but to an over-the-top watching experience that only works so well, BECAUSE the original is such a well known masterpiece. It has a few thrilling moments, yet thrill is not what it is about. This is about entertainment and surprise. Surprise what happens next and how. It contains loads of gruesome shark killings and also loads of painfully long and akward scenes. But the mix is just right. Now I could have done with less artificial dust that in dark scenes almost looked like it was snowing and I can’t say this added anything to the movie that a washed out look would not have added probably better. Yet this is about the only true complaint I have. Other than that there is a scene with a sailor outside, where there is no background nice, which sounds a bit strange and the deleted scenes are a bit too clearly noticable. The orca ending came as surprise and was needed to really get the final blow to tell me that I am NOT AT ALL WATCHING JAWS.
This is a special fanedit and as such it is a piece of fanediting art to me. Daring. Creative. And an incredible load of work. I bow deeply to TMBTM for the concept and the final edit.
Did I love it? No. But I liked it a lot.
editing: 10 of 10
entertainment: 8 of 10 (original 10 of 10)

Image and video quality:
Video quality was good, the image has too much artificial dirt IMO. The deleted scenes were too clearly spottable.
Video quality: 6 of 10

Audio editing and audio quality:
The audio editing was very good, there was one scene, where background noieses should have been added.
audio editing: 10 of 10
sound quality: 7 of 10
resulting in a 9 of 10 for overall audio

presentation:
The DVD comes with a still but nice menu with no sound. The presentation of a drive-in cinema is hillarious. The font for the intro and end credits is something to get used to. It’s neatly animated in the beginning. The bonus features are nice addition, although not too much. The chapter menu is very simple. There is fitting cover art attached.
Overall the presentation of this fanedit is very nice.
resulting in a 9 of 10 for overall presentation

Final result: 9 of 10
I recommend watching this fanedit.

TMBTM presents another grindhouse edit taking the popular Jaws film and turning it into something unique and original. The music choices made here are all great and the shark attack set to Iggy Pops go for the throat is perhaps one of the best fanediting sequences I've seen.

The edit could have benefited being 10 or 15mins shorter as some scenes for me don't really add anything to the overall story, also the splotching effects are at times distracting and over done though it didn't in any way take away the overall enjoyment I had.

Half way through the edit it's very apparent we've cut to Jaws 2 (one has to ask why Brody would call for another expert to examine the whale when he already has Hooper around) however this is all needed to set-up what is the best ending to a fanedit I've ever seen.

Overall this is a very enjoyable edit that doesn't take it self to seriously
