Jaws 2: Extended Integral Edition

I’ve always really enjoyed jaws 2, and felt it was underrated, albeit with some stubborn choices to make all the doubting characters absolutely bloody stupid.

The extra footage really changes the character development, and adds nothing but great things- ultimately filling out the film and bringing it much closer to the first. Some of the footage and audio is very obviously unreleased, but placed well and I believe improved the pacing.. The remaining footage has been edited and added extremely well, and I found myself wondering aloud if I just watched a new scene or have a poor memory (I do!]

This is the definitive version to watch and am very grateful to have found it. Bloody brilliant

How many times have I viewed Jaws 2? Five? A dozen? I live with two shark obsessed females, which means I get to see good shark flicks and a school of bad ones. And to me, Jaws 2 is a bad one.

Filesize = 13.4 GB. Video = 1920 X 1080 HEVC. Audio = kbps AAC 2-Channel stereo. Subs, well sorta.

This is too much of a good thing. Every single lost or cut scene is reinserted. For finatics, bigger and more happy meals.
Some bits are 4 X 3, and I wished the editor had mildly cropped top and bottom, as well as increased contrast and sharpness. The contrast and sharpness for other lost bits, too. Such might defeat the editor’s vision.

This remains and unsatisfying film for me (mind you, the two I watched this edit with were ecstatic).
Regular film, extended edition, the kids ought to have died. All of ’em.

Finally, 13 GB struck me as big for h265.

As a huge fan of "Jaws 2", thank you for making this edit.

Jaws 2 never came close to the cult status of its predecessor, but still has sufficient bite. It has very good sequences, some very genuine shocks, different storylines and also interesting new characters. But nothing compared to Roy Scheider RIP.

Now let's go back to the initial fan edit review... First I want to give Ridgeshark a big round of applause. I mean the level of commitment to finding the delete scenes and then putting them in the theatrical version, it's just simply amazing. Honestly, I did not follow the editing process, but how on earth did he find the old Brazilian CIC VHS and the TV edition footage. And then finally turning them into decent-looking HD footage is simply top-notch.

I really enjoyed all the extended and alternate scenes. In particular the additional underwater shark attack on the helicopter pilot and where chief Brody drives Ellen to work and gives her boss a parking ticket.

Regarding now the technical aspects, the deleted and extended scenes are well put together and they don't have a negative effect on the whole movie. Sure, you could argue that the formats are different, but this is a fan edit and it should be enjoyed and treated as such.

Thank you Ridgeshark for the opportunity to watch your fan edit and to give me a new viewing experience. I guess I can now frame my laserdisc version on the wall :)

First things first - I love Jaws 2. Always have and always will. I find it's an incredibly underrated sequel, which considering its problematic shoot (original director John Hancock being fired after at least a week's shooting) is actually a very fine example of how to make a worthy follow up to a classic original. It's crammed full of superb set pieces and the best special effects of the entire series. Sure, it hasn't quite got the deft touch of Spielberg's Jaws, but it has a good script, interesting characters and is paced to near perfection. Oh, and John Williams outdoes himself again with another brilliant score.

So, needless to say I've been watching the progress of this edit with some degree of excitement and fascination. The efforts that Ridgeshark has gone to here, to not only present the longest version of Jaws 2 possible, but also the painstaking trials and tribulations of turning old VHS footage into something half decent alongside the HD quality of the theatrical cut footage, is quite something to behold. I for one was quite surprised how reasonable the VHS footage looked. Sure, it's light years away from the theatrical footage, but it's very impressive nonetheless.

Ridgeshark also deserves considerable praise for his skillfully he transitions from full widescreen to scenes which are 4:3. Of course it's noticeable, but this is as carefully done as it could be and makes for rewarding viewing. I could be wrong, but it appeared once a deleted scene was about to come up he would gradually fade in the audio from the VHS or deleted footage whilst the theatrical cut was still playing, meaning any sound quality difference between the two would be as unnoticeable as possible. Only once did sound levels seem a bit off, when Brody is in the bathroom after pulling the body out of the ocean - it just seemed louder than anywhere else in the edit - otherwise, this is excellent work.

Of the deleted footage, some scenes are better than others. Some you could literally see why they were cut (usually unimportant scenes which go for pacing reasons), but others are genuine gems which I wish had stayed in the theatrical cut. For example, the scene where Brody's job is discussed by the Amity council is much longer, and you really see the Mayor wanting Brody to stay in his position as Chief of Police. Needless to say, the extended helicopter scene is much scarier and is terrific.. it was also cool to see the diver's camera recovered. So much good stuff.

Overall, this is a must see for any Jaws 2 fan. Ridgeshark, I would like to congratulate you on a brilliant edit. I also loved the moment during the end credits where you give information about the various sources you used. A nice touch. All in all, Jaws 2:Extended Integral Cut comes highly recommended.
