----

The second film in my set of Harry Potter extended editions. Certain deleted scenes have been incorporated that were not added back to the TV versions, or scenes created from other content to allow for the inclusion of a deleted scene. For Gof, all deleted scenes that have been released with the Blu-Rays have been reincorporated into the original movie.
Intention:
The intent of this project was to create a complete set of Harry Potter extended editions that mimic the versions seen on ABC Family/FreeForm, but are not exact duplicates. Certain deleted scenes have been incorporated that were not added back to the TV versions, or scenes created from other content to allow for the inclusion of a deleted scene.

Editing Details:
Goblet of Fire was the next in the series of the HP films that I approached editing. I found this one to be fun, especially with adding in the full rock song done at the Yule Ball. It was a bit of a challenge initially to get the Ron/Harry scenes added back in with the correct background music playing, but the end result worked out well. I feel like several of these scenes should have never been cut, like the Karkaroff/Snape scene and the extended version of the Crouch/Mad Eye scene. I hope everyone enjoys the additional scenes added back to this film.
Cuts and Additions:
- All deleted scenes have been added
- Added Hogwarts students welcoming the Durmstrang and Beauxbaton students with the Hogwarts school song
- Added scene where Harry tries to ask Cho to the Yule Ball
- Added scene showing Durmstrang student asking Hogwarts student to the Ball as Ron and Harry look on
- Music modified so work with the above 2 scenes
- Full version of "Can You Dance Like a Hippogriff" added. Scenes with Harry, Ron and their dates watching Hermione and Krum altered to fit with the longer song.
- Karkaroff/Snape scene outside of the Yule Ball
- Crouch/Mad Eye extended scene added after 2nd task
- Added Common Room scene after the death of Crouch
- Added the scene where Harry, Ron and Hermione are wondering what is on Snape's arm and Harry's scar hurting.

I remembered this film being one of my favorites of the series, and was always puzzled why there seemed to be a lot of negativity towards it from some fans. I chalked it up to it following Prisoner of Azkaban, which some fans went absolutely bonkers for, and I still think that's a large part. But in a way, it's more because it's everything PoA wasn't.

This is a film driven by the plot (rather than tone and imagery), which is heavily based on action. It brings back some of the lighter golden and green tones so associated with the other films in the series. It also brings back a few scenes that capture Harry's continual wonder at the mechanics of the wizarding world, and that just aid in world-building. As an adaptation, I would've liked to have seen more of the personal stakes and character development from the books (all the Quidditch, for example) but this film was hamstrung by the complete removal of key storylines in adapting the previous book for Prisoner of Azkaban. All in all, the film does come off a bit cheesier and more ham-fisted than I remembered at times, and I still find the portrayal of Dumbledore VERY disappointing, but it's a fun, satisfying entry in the series.

Some of the scenes that are added back in (and masterfully so) do help to add a bit more depth or make the narrative flow a bit better. However, I really think some of the scenes are best left as extras on a dvd. The full musical performance is far too long, and none of our film characters are actually involved in it in any way. So it's basically like inserting a cheesy music video into the middle of a film. A couple other bits are quite cheesy as well, like the Hogwarts sing-along song, and really the score by Patrick Doyle is a bit unmemorable in general. This is actually a very well-balanced crowd-pleaser of a film that's made even better by the inclusion of a few extra scenes. Personally, I'd leave a few out, but if you want absolutely all the Potter you can get, this is the edit for you.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has always been my absolute least favorite HP film. It strayed the furthest from the books, had flat characters, and failed to properly achieve its world building. The inclusion of the deleted material may not completely solve these narrative problems, but it's a massive improvement over the theatrical release. Radcliffe's oddly flat performance in the theatrical release is given room to breathe and shine with the additional material added in. As always, the audio and video quality of the edits are seamless and wonderful. It goes without saying that this is the go-to version for this movie in my household. Highly recommended.
