Brief Synopsis:
Minutes after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) caged and burning in the basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie's trap, his local massacre continues. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, a group of other survivors (Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, Charles Cyphers) of Michael's first rampage decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. Evil will finally die.
Intention:
I have some kind of thoughts regarding the Blumhouse trilogy for Halloween. 2018 started on a great note, Kills was okay, but Ends was bad. The big problem comes from studio greed thanks to greenlighting TWO sequels rather than just one. I had a feeling that Kills originally was going to be the finale given how it feels like some of its ideas may have been forced to be cut for an additional film, making it a trilogy rather than a duology. But what if we were only going to get one sequel? What if we were going to have a Blumhouse duology that makes up a trilogy when paired with the 1978 classic? Enter Halloween: Evil Dies Tonight, a merge cut aiming to combine Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends into one viewing experience. I trimmed out various scenes depicting stupidity in the town of Haddonfield, speeding up some sections of the plot, and ensuring a proper finality for Michael and Laurie. And yes, "evil dies tonight" usage is cut down from nearly 30 uses to just two.

And I was wondering how we can salvage the trash that was Halloween Ends...we don't! We delete the entire movie and keep only the fight at the end! Haha...In all seriousness though, I wasn't expecting that. As the edit went on I was thinking, when are we going to transition to the third film? Obviously, when we passed the one hour mark I understood what was going on and I smiled.

I'm a big fan of the Halloween franchise, actually, big fan of Michael Myers and the original film to be honest and I was happy that there was going to be an attempt for a new sequel trilogy. I kind of enjoyed the 'Returns', I really enjoyed 'Kills' and then I was completely disappointed with 'Ends'. What a horrible way to end this trilogy..Ever since, I was waiting for a fanedit but there was nothing, until I came across this one here. I don't think it can get better than this for me. The editor kept most of Halloween Kills, which I really liked, and threw away most of Ends and kept the ending so we can have a closure.

All the cuts were seamless and every transition was great, with the exception of one scene. At the end of Kills where the town gangs up on Michael and it seems they killed him, so Laurey's daughter leaves, after that Michael kills her and we get a flashback that he actually lived and butchered everyone from before. The editor chose to reverse that and we actually see Michael get up and retaliate immediately instead of later on. I don't think that this worked very well. Although the scene with Michael getting up immediately was fine and it didn't feel out of place, what felt out of place were the scenes with Laurie's daughter. I got confused of what was going on and the only reason I knew was obviously because I had watched the original film.

Other than that, excellent edit and I definitely recommend it to everyone who did not like Halloween Ends and also wants a more trimmed down version of Kills. For me, it will be my go-to version from now on in any future Halloween H40 marathons.

Thank you Speems for all your hard work and thanks to anyone who read my review!

I liked Halloween Kills, but the only thing I liked about Halloween Ends was the ending, everything else sucked. This guy did what should've been done, which was combine the majority of Halloween Kills with the ending of Halloween Ends. Couldn't have done better myself, now I don't have to do my own, exactly how I want it. This is how I'd watch these Halloween movies now: Halloween, Halloween (2018), and Halloween: Evil Dies Tonight, a perfect trilogy, next to the second canon Halloween, Halloween 2, and Halloween H20. This was great, and if you're like me and was disappointed by Ends, then this is what you need.
