Allow me to preface with the fact that I love the original. I wouldn't want them to have delivered The Joker in any other way.... at least at the time of initial viewing. I was mostly drawn to this one because the title is hilarious.

That being said - this is absolutely a worthwhile watch and it is amazing how you can encapsulate the feeling of the entire film in 45 minutes without feeling like anything was lost. Kudos for having the vision, because as stated I watched The Joker and didn't notice anything I would have done differently.

I think most of these fan fixes take movies that are objectively bad because of the addition of certain storylines that never affect the movie in any one way or another and essentially they are removing fluff to realign the movie and 9 times out of 10 the only way to make a bad movie less bad is to take some of the bad out. Usually a fan fix of a good movie improves it by adding in deleted scenes and shifting the narrative in a way that keeps the deleted scenes from feeling out of place.

This takes a good movie, removes good scenes, and somehow makes it better (or at the very least as good). Wild!

While I enjoyed the original film, I felt while watching it that it was a tad meandering and didn't always know what it wanted to say. This edit, on the other hand, has a clear vision and gets its point across without sacrificing character development or plot. Would definitely recommend.

Wow. I hope this doesn't sound pessimistic, but I didn't expect to like this so much. I actually liked Joker a lot, and didn't really believe a 45min edit could produce anything solid when this first came out. But after such great reviews, I had to at least SEE it. Boy am I glad I did.

I'm still kinda stunned by it. Its simply amazing. I am shocked at how much stuff was taken out, and even more stunned at how the film was actually better for it. It feels less preachy about SO MANY THNGS, and shows a solid origin story that felt longer than it was, in the best way. This is what GREAT fanediting looks like.

Thanks Doggo Moon!

There is not much i can add that other reviewers have not already stated.
So in the vein of the edit its self here is a review with all the fat cut out of it.
the Groucho Marxist edit of the Joker gets straight to the point with out compromising the over all plot of the original film, with a break neck pace replacing most of the drawn out build up and character study.

Groucho Marxist gets straight to the point of Joker and is arguably a more impactful film in the end. The inclusion of The Firing Line interview at the beginning of the film and the stripped down narrative, with a very fitting quote to end the film, Groucho Marxist elevates Joker from a great film, to a profound a one. Nothing feels missed, there's no weird and jarring cuts, if anything it feels like a professional edit.

What I loved most about this edit is the fact that the story has a much clearer message in the end that I think fits very well within the framework of this particular Joker story.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever watch the theatrical release again after having watched Doggo Moon's edit... It's just so much more enjoyable... And that's not to say the original release isn't fantastic or anything, but this just gets to the point. It cuts out the neighbours subplot, the psych ward aspects are gone, Arthur killing his coworkers has been omitted and yet none of those things are particularly missed. There's some more subtle edits and changes here and there but those are the major changes.

This review gets what it f***ing deserves! A 10/10
