I think leaving out the bulk of Cranston's part to play in this story was definitely the right call by Kris for this edit. Everything we need to know is already there in the moments with his son, and it is better to envision this all in our heads, as the imagination of what happened provides even greater attachment and atmosphere.

Other changes really help make this feel a bit more urgent, and altogether a bit more real, I appreciate that not everyone makes it out, it raises the stakes significantly and makes us think about how much of survival is down to not just skill, but luck.

The edit moves at a quick pace and the tone, slightly more downbeat, is more appropriate for this kind of film. Expect monster movies to always be monstrous, ripe with conflicts and, more importantly, consequence. Rangerkris serves Godzilla's spirit well in this effort.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a fan of the original theatrical release. However, it's not the kind of movie that I'd rewatch, nor did I have any intentions of rewatching it. The buildup is too slow and the payoff, while satisfying, is too brief for me to want to watch it more than once. Of course I make an exception for fanedits, and I was not disappointed. I think this is closer to the movie that people were expecting based on the trailers.

It moves at a nice clip, with less bloat and unnecessary stuff. I really like how neatly Aaron Taylor Johnson's character was cut from the majority of the movie. I very much appreciate that the human drama was toned down from the original movie, I think just about everyone agrees that was the worst part of the film. In terms of cut quality, I only noticed one sharp/awkward cut, where originally the scientist fellow (I don't remember his name :P) pointed to Bryan Cranston's character when asked what people he needed. I don't think there was much else the editor could do, it was either make the sharp cut or leave in that fake drama, and I'm personally glad ranger613 chose the former.

The audio/visual quality is fantastic, I watched it at 1080p and didn't notice any visual artifacts or audio stuttering.

Despite all that, I can't give it a perfect 10 in terms of enjoyment, because I feel like there's more that can be done. I'd elaborate, but I can't place what it is. It's a fantastic edit to be sure, but I wouldn't quite call it the definitive cut of Godzilla. In the meantime though, this is the version I recommend.

I really enjoyed the original movie, except from some parts with the super soldier and the over the tone drama it was nicely directed and the atmosphere was superb.

Being so I was intrigued to see how could the movie be better cutting out more than 40 minutes, but the end result is great. Better pace, loss of inconsequential scenes and all the fortuity of some events.

I only have one minor issue, there is one scene that feels off in which the main character is on a plane when he supposedly was on the destroyer.

I really enjoyed the original intro and the janjira scene, nothing is really lost leaving them out of this edit though.

I totally recommend it.

I guess myself and Ranger had the same feeling about the theatrical version of this movie. I liked the theatrical one when I saw it in theaters but that's it, I just liked it. I wasn't blown away as I felt I should have been after viewing the trailer for it. So coming Into this I was very excited and anxious to check it out. Everything you did with this edit I feel is better than the theatrical cut of this Godzilla movie. People can argue about the power plant scene and shows the emotion of the Dad and son part in the movie, but I feel the whole sequence in the fathers apartment pretty much explained everything. All the emotion was there and you knew it without having to see it (power plant scene that is). This edit flowed very well with me and gives me another alternate version to go and watch again. The visuals were gorgeous and the editing top notch. I really enjoyed this edit Excellent job Ranger! I will definitely check out your other edits for sure.
