Godzilla II is often considered the black sheep of the Monsterverse; this re-edited version demonstrates that there's a good movie beneath the surface, stripping away the useless jokes and bringing the whole picture closer in tone and feels to its predecessor.
A very solid effort, it is my definitive version from now on.

Not a huge fan of the 'Monster-verse' films, but always liked the fun and occasionally the pathos of Godzilla (in the original and more recently in Minus One), so I had to pick this one up. I was disappointed with the film after viewing but I saw an edit released for it and had to give it a shot. Much, much better. If you want a fun Godzilla movie that also doesn't grate your nerves with juvenile humor in addition to the asinine plot, this edit is the way to go. The typical Godzilla film ridiculousness is here, but it's much, much more tolerable with all of the cringe humor edited out. It even occasionally rises above its genre and got me to take it seriously, so I'd say the edit accomplished its goals. Very tasteful editing and leaves the giant creature awesomeness intact...this is definitely the best way to watch the film!

First, allow me to say that the original of this movie was one of the most disappointing watch experiences I’ve ever had. The dialogue was cheap, reductive, and followed the style of the worst action-comedy films have to offer.

The dramatic cut skillfully does away with all of this disappointment and leaves a refreshingly strong entry into the Godzilla franchise that I cannot recommend highly enough.

The only issue I found was a brief, almost unnoticeable audio cut about halfway through the movie (apologies for not thinking to write down the exact time). It was so slight that I genuinely believe this might have been apart of the source audio and not due to the edit and thus I cannot redact any points.

Continuing on to our review, INIGHTMARES delivers a tense, sometimes chill inducing version of Godzilla: King of Monsters that has broken free of the chains of “Well THAT just happened” writing. It never takes away too much from the original, just enough to make a diamond in the rough shine true.

If you are searching for a fantastic monster movie night, this is the edit for you.

Amazing fixes all around! Really improved this movie as much as possible.

So many of those moments where I could almost feeeeel the cringey dialogue were cut and the movie greatly benefits from it.

From the audio aspect, there were just one or two moments where a sound or music cut short a little too abruptly, but I'm sorry to say I didn't write down the times. It really wasn't bad but I did notice it (maybe because I was looking for it?).

In terms of the narrative, I agree with another commenter that there was still a lot of dialogue that could, usually from Bradley Whitford. It felt like every character spent the whole movie saying insane things haha maybe there's no way to fix it without cutting too much of the narrative.

Regardless, I think you have saved this movie for me. Before it was an annoying cartoony mess of a movie and now, as you titled it, it is nice and dramatic! Excellent work :)
