Brief Synopsis:
The dreadful manifestation of the evil sixteenth-century tyrant, Vigo the Carpathian, threatens to plunge the entire city into darkness unless the selfless Ghostbusters take action. Can they stop New York from being sucked down into the 10th level of hell - again?

Five deleted, alternate and extended scenes have been masterfully reintegrated into the movie. adding four more minutes of footage to the repetitive sequel we all know and tolerate.
Intention:
To put back some of the deleted scenes with a few good jokes and to let the movie breath a little more.

Editing Details:
The deleted scenes included on the BR are some of the best restored scenes for a bonus feature I've ever seen, almost no damage or dirt with minor grain and it's all in HD with the colours being pretty good. Only one scene needed major work, the others were pretty simple.

The Louis and Slimer scene is a standout due to the unfinished VFX and SFX, I've done my best to fix it as good as I can. SFX was rebuilt with a new score taken from elsewhere in the movie, proton pack start up and cool down sound added. The 90% done comp of Slime was cleaned up to an acceptable standard, the yellowing was restored to green and a missing effect shot was taken from the credit sequence with the text removed and a Slimer growl borrowed from the first film,
Cuts and Additions:
- added Dana asking the boys why these terrible things always happen to her, with Egon trying to scientifically reason it
- added Dana saying its all her fault Pete and the guys are in court, with Peter saying he'll land on his feet, like a cat
- added Louis trying to catch Slimer with a spare proton pack and almost hitting Jen
- added alternate version of Ray, Egon and Winston asking Pete to join them in the sewer, this time its in his apartment and not the street
- added an extended dialogue scene with the boys in Lady Liberty discussing the statue, falling out and traffic directions

A longtime favourite of mine, Ghostbusters 2 is one of those flawed sequels with a good heart that I'll stick up for given half a chance. Bobson's edit goes a long way toward shoring up my love of this film, with added scenes between Dana and Peter that flesh out the sweet and bruised relationship that's at the core of the movie. The sequences between Louis and Slimer, while unfinished, are icing on the cake.

With the recent announcement of a box set full of additional deleted scenes, it's very possible this edit will be getting an upgrade, but even if not, this will continue to be my go-to version of this, one of the all-time great movies to feature a dancing toaster.

(One nit-pick/suggestion I just thought of while typing that last sentence: can a future edit please fix Peter's line "oh it sings, too!" during the dancing slime-toaster sequence? He says it before the clearly overdubbed song starts playing vocals and it has bugged me since well before I knew was ADR was.)

The deleted scenes were somewhat lazily re-inserted with poor color grading, noticeable scratches and markups, and other visual impairments. Most of these added scenes however, were rather enjoyable and made the film a bit more fun. I definitely would like to see an updated extended edition of Ghostbusters II but this version still needs some work. I'm sure if they went and fixed each frame they could help everything fit better but that's on the level of a film restoration but still would help the overall film. If you're okay with a few less than perfect scenes, this edit does help with the story and is very enjoyable but don't be surprised when the extended scenes come around and it's blatantly obvious there were stitched back in. On the flip side, the audio editing was phenomenal, even with the deleted scenes and their transitions. You never get the feeling that you're missing out and you can always enjoy the film. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a new way to enjoy and old classic.

All thanks must go to Bobson for yet another fine extended edition. I am one of the few who don't think this movie needs any fixing, as I enjoyed it greatly in the theatrical version. (General thoughts on watching this in the year of the beast, 2020, are here: https://nottheacademy.com/ghostbusters-ii-the-halloween-movie-we-need-for-2020/) And more is not always better, as often deleted scenes didn't make the cut for good reasons. Here however, Bobson's additions or changes actually greatly improve the movie. Mostly, they just make it funnier and flesh out the characters a bit, but one key addition in the beginning makes the whole film better. It's a scene that addresses the convenience of a 2nd ghostly event happening to Dana, and it's just a few lines but the fact that they give a suitably Ghostbustersy pseudoscience explanation allows you to enjoy the rest of the film and not worry about it.

There's also a scene that admittedly was added more for fans of the cartoon or kids with the toys, but it's also a nice callback to the first film. While the finished effects on the ghost Slimer don't look awesome, they also don't look horrible. Bobson has completed the scene well enough that it doesn't stick out of the film, and it's a welcome addition. I could quibble about the added scenes as several of them do have a noticeable jump in the level of where characters are positioned (they move up or down a couple inches from shot to shot). I'm not sure if this is due to the source being a different aspect ratio or what, but it does slightly break the immersion. However, the audio is added in wonderfully and overall the integration works well.

The biggest complaint I have really is just that the fanedit title is too deep and serious for this film! lol I would've gone with one of the funnier quotes like "The All New Cheap Moves Edition" or "The Stop Cutting Edition" or even "There's Always Room for Jell-O! Edition". Or for a different feel: "The Do-Re-Egon Memorial Edition". Anyway, it's a great edit that everyone should have fun watching. Thanks again, Bobson.
