(MINOR GOT SEASON 1 SPOILERS AHEAD!)
When Andreas announced he was working on a Game of Thrones edit, I got pretty pumped. Of all the seasons, the first one may be among the most primed to be done for a TV to Movie Edit (I believe 4 and 6 would also be great as movies). The editing here is all really good for the most part. The change in aspect ratio is a very stylistic choice, and it pays off for the most part. Andreas took his time with each crop to make it look realistic and not take anything important out, and it worked very well. While replacing the amazing Game of Thrones soundtrack is something that I immediately resisted, the implementation of Lord of the Ring music worked very well and felt well implemented throughout. I will say, for future edits I would love to see a few themes from GoT mixed in (Rains of Castamere is a must IMO, and I wouldn't mind Jon Snow's theme coming in for truly epic moments).

The choices of what to keep and what to remove worked really well. While the petty squabble between the Starks and Lannisters over the direwolf helped to establish the beef between Ned and Cersei, it certainly wasn't too missed in the edit. I greatly enjoyed Tyrion's subplot with Lysa and the trial of combat that ensued, but I certainly understand why it had to be cut. I am also all for the cutting of a lot of Drogo's character development, as I enjoyed it but it wasn't too necessary to the plot. A few scenes were really missed for me, such as the Stark family finding the direwolves (though I understand having that scene creates a plot hole with the Sansa subplot removed) and Ned bringing Arya to her lessons. Other than those, I thought that this edit was very on point. I couldn't wait to watch through the whole thing, and the character beats and pacing were fantastic. You did a truly great job of making a 10 hour season into a movie length.

I am now hooked and I absolutely can't wait on the second movie! No hurry, though. Thanks for this fantastic edit and I hope you see this saga through to the end!

My wife and I love the Game of Thrones series BUT to plow through all 8 seasons when we need our fix is a lot to ask. I was thrilled to see that someone had taken up the gauntlet of condensing these seasons in to movies. I must admit I was skeptical that a single movie would be able to successfully condense a season down and not lose too much of the nuance of the individual episodes.

I was pleasently suprised. Heck, I was dumb founded that it was translated so well. The music, I must admit, did hurt the immersion some as I am a fan of LOTR and every time I heard the familiar score it did take me out of the moment. To be honest though, after about the 30 minute mark I started not noticing it so much and it became familiar.

Overall, this will be my preferred way of watching the series going forward, unless of course I have nothing like a job, kids, or any other real life things that would allow me sit quietly and watch all the episodes at my own pace.

Thank you for making this and I look forward to all your future projects.

TV-to-movie edits are tough. It's really easy to take a 10 hour TV season and make a 4 hour TV season. What's difficult is taking a 10 hour season and making a proper 2.5 hour movie. In that sense, this edit passes with flying colours. There's another edit of season one that didn't do a good job with the narrative but this is on another level. This is a gripping story with all the right elements. The opening is genius and it flows like a proper movie. The only bad thing I can say about the narrative is that it's not a self-contained story and relies on the fact that sequels are coming. But that's a minor quibble because you'll definitely want to watch the sequel right after this anyway.

The picture quality is great and the addition of the LOTR score is a great bonus. But there's a serious issue with this edit in that there about a dozen or so spots where the picture becomes very pixelated for a few seconds. It's bad enough that it takes you out of the movie and the editor really should have corrected this before releasing it. Were it not for that, this would easily be a 9 or 10 out of 10, but as it stands now, I can't recommend this edit. The editor should really take another shot at this because the narrative is so good that it deserves a release without technical issues.

Fantastic edit!! Would recommend this to any one who loves GoT and fantasy films in general! I love the tv show and watched through every season more than 3 times and I can say that this edit for season 1 is fantastic and brilliantly edited! I loved the LOTR music in this as it fits in so nicely but I would love to hear some GoT themes in their also, especially the ending!! I did think there were certain plots that were skipped very quickly and for people that never watched the tv show before might get a bit confused! An example being dany and drogos relationship and Jaime and Neds conflict! A few other minor gripes but that would be only nit picking. I know you can't leave in every plot hole in as it is cut into a 2 and a half hour movie but for what you did it was amazing and did a great job! I am looking very forward to the next seasons of movies you are making and think that you will do a fantastic job on doing so! no rush but would love to see them done before the new season! Once again fantastic edit and can't wait for your next ones! Amazing Job :)

I needed a way to convince a friend to watch game of thrones with me, let me just say, THIS WORKED, I watched the first two seasons with them in fanedit form and then we swapped to the regular TV show. That alone, is an amazing accomplishment. It is hard to condense such a long season into a movie, so we lose a lot of subplots, character growth and even context between characters etc. It isn't too bad and is a worthy trade-off for making it into an easy to watch movie. The audio? Never bothered me and frankly I barely noticed although my friend loved LOTR so really enjoyed it.

Lets discuss some of the changes from the forum post:

- Ned Stark is the main character, not the Starks. All the Starks get to shine in Winterfell just as they should, but as the story progresses and Ned leaves, so does our focus on his children, Catelyn and Winterfell, only to feature again after the middle-act (100 minute mark) when Tyrion visits after his trip to The Wall, and at the end after Ned's death, to set-up the second movie.

Fine choice, doesn't let you really get a feel for the family, which is arguably the long-term goal of these scenes cause Ned is expendable but okay.

- No Tyrion and Catelyn subplot with Tyrion being captured and taken prisoner, and the trip to the Eyrie.

This is disappointing because we don't get ANY context (that I can remember) for Ser Bronn and their connection. Ser Bronn is an amazing character and this was a bit jarring for my friend.

- No Catelyn visiting Ned and Littlefinger at King's Landing.

Fine, I didn't even miss this as something worth remembering.

- Daenery's storyline starts later, as I don't want to detract from the Starks. It starts just before Ned and Jon leave Winterfell, after Robert's speech in the crypts as in the original (which is now much later).

This is fine, actually felt pretty natural .

- Viserys is just the worst brat and big brother ever and villain of Daenerys' story, and that is all he is. Cut personal scenes.

Viserys sucks, he is super lame, but maybe this removes some context as to the legacy of their family? Anyways, good riddance.

- Removed tremendous amount of supporting characters' subplots to focus on main plots.

Again, this had to be done to fit a movie running time, only certain scenes were missed. OH, except for the wolfs each stark kid gets, this is sorely missed and I think pretty fun.

- Removed tremendous amount of character's dialogues and backstories, and scenes of no story or character importance.

Again, running time.

- Jon Snow storyline at Castle Black is much more condensed, fast-paced and visually appealing.

Since we don't get much family bonding, Jon Snow feels more distant. Eh.

- The greatest deal of screentime for Tyrion is the first 60 minutes, and the last 60 minutes. In the second act he takes a backseat as he is traveling home, although short appearances here and there when relevant for the story.

Fine.

- King's Landing scenes are extremely condensed and relevant to the plot, and have a very thriller'y feel to it.

King's Landing feels quick, which was the goal. We don't get much of a sense for the city.

- Ned Stark's children at King's Landing, Arya and Sansa, very much take a backseat from the second act and throughout, though it is known Arya takes waterdancing lessons from Syrio Forell.

Arya taking the waterdancing lessons was MUCH needed, glad its here.

- Khal Drogo is no longer of great importance. He is there. He looks badass. He plays his part. But pregnancy/son-subplot, Daenery's&Khal full-on romance and all the boring and supposedly emotional and personal scenes are removed, with very few exceptions.

My friend felt Khal was a terrible person, which in someways he is but in others he was a sorta good guy. The removal of these scenes makes him feel like a horrible, horrible, bad words assaulter ya know?

- Khal Drogo dies of his wounds. Witch tries to save him. Daenerys' enters tent, comes out with baby dragons. No braindead Khal Drogo-subplot and "oh nooo, my moon & stars, i love you".

Again, see above.

- Littlefinger and Varys play their parts as mysterious characters and schemers, although their appearances (mostly) only relevant for Ned or the story.

This is fine.

That's the end of the changes listed, I am very glad to have watched Season 1 and Season 2 in this format. It got my friend into the show and we are on season 5 now. I really enjoyed rewatching the first two seasons in this format too. It was a nice refresher and sometimes it's hard for me to pay attention to the actual show after having seen it, but the edited format gave me something new to watch and kept my attention more because I was interested in the changes.

I might not do a review of the season 2 edit, but my thoughts are about the same. Thank you for the edit. Good job!
