Having never read the books and having rather enjoyed the GoT series (up until Season 5), the best compliment that I can give this edit is to write that it is "watchable".

The biggest critique/folly of this edit is the inability to fully immerse myself in the story due to the editors decision to use music from The Lord of The Rings movies.
That, is a HUGE mistake.

It is tantamount to someone editing the Star Trek movies and using music from the Star Wars films.

The editor underestimates the power of music. He/She does not seem to understand that movies are not exclusively a visual medium; they are an auditory medium just as much if not more so.

As such, I cannot give this edit a higher score and I only recommend this edit to those who have either, never seen The Lord of The Rings movies, those who do not hold The Lord of the Rings movies in high regard or those who are deaf and have never heard the score from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

1. Why in god's name didn't you watch the GoT-score versions of the first films and the following?

2. It is neither a mistake nor a lack of film knowledge or film scoring for me to CHOOSE to create a Lord of the Rings-inspired take on Game of Thrones.

3. This was a harsh and uncalled for review.

This edit is astounding in that it collapsed so much complicated narrative into a less than 3 hour film. I'm shocked that it even worked, and even more impressed that it worked as well as it did.

Looked good on my 4k TV, I noticed a couple of pixelated spots which may or may not have been Plex related, so YMMV. Sounded good on my surround sound as well.

There are some choices made as far as what to cut, when to cut that I personally don't agree with, but none of it is done poorly. A lot of it will come down to your taste, and what you enjoy about the show.

My biggest grip is the new music. It just doesn't fit to me, especially given that the show has so much fantastic music. I'd honestly put the Game of Thrones score up there on par with Howard Shore's LOTR work. The music is also part of the personality of the show, just like Star Wars' music is part of what makes it so great. I'm a little puzzled by the decision to use different music, as it seems like it would be a lot of work to replace the music of the entire edit. Again, a personal opinion, so can't fault you for it.

Overall this is a truly impressive edit, and great for those that want to "watch" the season without devoting 10 hours to it. I'd be curious to see how it plays to someone that's never seen the show before.

A true achievement to trim 10-ish hours down to a perfectly reasonable 2.5 hour-movie. I certainly didn't miss anything, but I did have to recollect a few times to remind we of what happens "in between" the cuts. No biggie unless you dive in to this without having seen the entire first season.

The audio and video editing is flawless and the LotR-music worked better than I thought, to be honest. Some of the musical cues do remind me too much of LotR, though, and did bring me out of it momentarily. My big issue with this edit is the letterboxing. Does it give a more cinematic feel? Sure. Is the framing thrown out the window? Mostly. It becomes evident that this is a fan edit (an otherwise stellar fan edit) the moment the framing feels off in a scene. A hair too much there, a foot there; it is noticeable throughout that the framing was not intended for 2.35:1 (or what the result here is).

Other than that I would certainly recommend this edit to anyone, really. Maybe one should be familiar with the first season in order to pick up some of the missing parts. Bottom line: A great edit in every way and an interesting concept, what with using LotR-music and all.

Having watched only your Harry Potter edits, I am familiar with your brilliant audio work. This heavily translated to this edit as well, as the audio work here is amazing. Just amazing.

And there isn’t much to nitpick. Having watched season 1 three times already, watching your movie version of it felt like something completely else. I totally immersed myself and am very thankful for this experience. I am looking very much forward to movie 2 (?).
