Brief Synopsis:
This edit eliminates the two policemen from the plot and brings it more into line with the original Anne Rice novel.
Intention:
To create a film that concentrates on the relationship between Mistress Lisa and Elliot, and so is much truer to the original story.

(Actually, that's a complete whitewash of my intention. I just wanted to cut Rosie O'Donnell out of the movie. The fact that it wound up bringing the plot closer to the original novel was just a happy accident.)

Additional Notes:
After taking YEARS to complete my last edit, I was looking for a project I could complete in a short time. I hit upon the idea of editing Rosie O'Donnell out of this film, and it seemed like something that wouldn't take long to do. At the time of this writing, this film has an IMDb rating of only 3.8. This low rating reflects several complaints that people have with this movie: that it takes too many liberties with Anne Rice's original story, that its juxtaposition of comedy and drama is awkward, and that you have to endure the sight of Rosie O'Donnell in leather (traumatic to some, I guess) in order to see Dana Delany in all her glory. This edit attempts to address those issues. If you're looking for a G-rated film, look elsewhere; if you're looking for an NC-17, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a serious examination of alternate lifestyles, get real: even with Rosie and Aykroyd gone, this is still very much a Garry Marshall film - an R-rated "Love, American Style" episode titled "Love and the Dominatrix". (Remember Marshall's treatment of the oldest profession? "Love and the Pretty Woman"? Okay then, you got the idea...)
Other Sources:
Thanks to Varese Sarabande for releasing the original soundtrack. It helped in spots to allow me to remove Rosie's voiceovers.

Editing Details:
I used AviSynth/VirtualDub as I had with my earlier edit(s). The trickiest part of this edit was the removal of some of the voiceovers. Some of it was accomplished by actually removing the footage that contained the voiceovers, but some was done by laying the raw soundtrack back over the film.
Cuts and Additions:
Gone are Rosie O's voiceovers, and any significant scenes of hers; you might spot her here and there in the film, but she's barely noticeable, and her own voice is only heard ONCE (when she's seen from the back). Likewise, Dan Aykroyd is reduced to a non-speaking cameo.

The "diamond smugglers" subplot is still there, but it is not nearly as intrusive; it serves a couple of important roles in the story, so it had to stay for the sake of continuity. So, relax Iman fans: she's still in the picture.

Overall, I agree with Neglify's review. Making this fanedit was obviously a difficult task, as the original intent of the movie was to water down the story by adding a superfluous heist story over it. Slark takes as much of that away as possible, which could not have been easy.

When I watched it, it reminded me of a really good workprint. If I was a director, I'd be calling for some reshoots to polish up the picture. Obviously, Slark was stuck with what was originally released, and with that, he produced an edit which is much closer to the flavor and intent of Rice's original work. :) Well done.

Overall I enjoyed "Exit To Eden", except of course for the visual impairment that came with seeing Rosie in a dominatrix outfit. Never would I have imagined someone would have the bright idea to cut Rosie out and keep it focused to the love story. As slark says, the film is far from perfect even without the stupid Rosie and Dan Aykroyd plot, but now you can watch this guilty pleasure movie with less guilt and more pleasure.

This edit isn't perfect though. The A/V quality is good but it's just an XVID AVI. The editing overall was impressive considering how much Rosie voice-over there was. There are some rough spots in the editing, most noticeable in the finale.

Overall I think this version is far superior to the original but a bit rough around the edges.
