Well. I never thought it was possible, you saved this picture. The problems with pacing/shitty dialogue/dumb humour is so massively solved in your edit that I’m not going to go into too much detail with that I’ll just assure anyone thinking of watching this that if those were the problems you had with the original cut of the film they are well and truly gone here.

With some neat cuts in dialogue and one well placed cut in the action early on you turned Qui-Gon from ‘that dude..with..the beard..was he.. shmee’s brother?..who was he again?’ into this awesome headstrong Jedi James Bond, killing first and asking questions later. Roguishly disregarding the councils wishes.

The way you used the usually dull Tattooine section to develop the characters was great. By cutting Annikans screen time you managed to make him a pretty likeable character, he doesn’t seem in anyway like the focus of the film, which always spoiled the original cut. Instead he’s just some really brave kid that randomly risks his life for some strangers. We like Qui-gon more because he acts like he doesn’t give a fuck about anything with his ‘I didn’t come here to free slaves’ swagger. But then let’s us know he really does with a few of those Neeson side Grins.

Perhaps the best thing about this whole edit (SPOILERS) was the way you reworked the jedi council scene so that Obi Wan seems rejected and bitter about Qui Gon ditching him for
Annikan. That adds such an interesting dynamic to their relationship, especially when you cut Qui Gon’s death speech. So we’re left with Obi Wan loosing the father he worshipped (but who rejected him) without any closure, and then taking up Annikan as his own son as if Qui Gon totally asked (when really he totally didn’t). This little touch suddenly made the psychology and relationships between the male characters in the prequels a hell of a lot more interesting, especially with all the father stuff going on in the original trilogy.

SO yeah, jeez, nice job.

Ep.1 was my least favourite of the PT, too many reasons to list. After viewing the Q2 v.2 edit my order of preference is now in question.

Right from the opening crawl my apprehensions about watching Ep.1 and being disappointed again started to fade, as the words were what I wanted to read. The opening scenes of the Lucas cut are hollow but in the Q2 edit there is now a new dynamic which provides pace and draws you in. At the point when the federation ships descended upon Naboo I moved my chair closer to the TV, lowered the blinds and turned up the volume… could this be the movie I had been waiting for?

Being mindful of my feelings I started to notice something different in myself, I had lost a pressure which normally sat at the top of my head in the form of a frown when watching Ep.1. All the little annoyances that had been present before started to fade; there were things about the original cut I had not noticed bothering me before, I guess I had started to suffer from prequel denial as a coping mechanism against disappointment. My subconscious must have been telling me; surely the PT cannot be that bad… can they? This edit was like therapy for me.

Great ending too!

At 89 mins I had feared v.2 would be too short, not so. It was just right. I wanted to watch it again, straight after the neon blue closing credits appeared; this has never happened to me before with Ep.1.

This movie has been rescued from what was a toy-selling commercial travesty into something those of all ages can now enjoy. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Q2 for your efforts. This cut deserves to be called a Star Wars movie. Episode 1 has finally arrived.

Thank you Q2.

This is probably one of the strongest Ep. 1 edits I’ve seen. My only real issue is that there are simply some movies you can’t completely fix, and this is one of those films. Unfortunately, Q2 and other editors have to deal with the horrible shot composition, horribly delivered lines that are crucial to plot, and other little annoyances like that. Q did one of the best jobs that could be done to this movie. It truly is hard to polish a turd, but I’ll be honest and say that this turd actually shines a little. Great work, Q2!

I really enjoyed to watch this edit. You cut all what was unnecessary and the movie is no more boring.
The only think I found that has not his place was Shmi saying “I can’t explain it”.

Video and sound are perfect.
Great job !

I think this is possibly my favorite Episode I edit too. I didn’t think anything would top Seciors’ version but I think this did. I loved how you kept Anakin on Naboo and that is one of the major reasons this might be my favorite. You along with Seciors made Episode I not only watchable but enjoyable which had never been done before IMO. L8Wrtr’s is watchable but there’s too much left in IMO. Back to your edit, I do wish like what was mentioned above that there was a little more interaction between Padme and Anakin. I love the treatment of R2 and 3PO.
