4.Ok, when I listened to the commentary for the deleted scene (on my store bought dvd), Carpenter said he didn’t like the scene because it makes Plisken less of a badass. Plisken is supposed to be a selfish S.O.B who doesn’t care about anyone but himself (friends are here today and gone tomorrow in his book). This extra scene shows that Plisken “has a heart” and I think it works well in the movie. I think this will be the only version I’ll be watching from now on. Funny how MGM couldn’t do a “branching” dvd so this extra scene could be seen in the movie. Good thing we have talented people like Tranzor. Great stuff.

3.I am an extended edition buff and have a big collection of original ones and all the fanedits from here.
Many extended editions do not add anything to the movie, just add more useless scenes. I will rate the ones here.
Rating criteria: image quality, sound quality, 3x improvement, overall.
Image Quality: 9 of 10
Sound Quality: 9 of 10
Improvement: 5 of 10
Overall: 6 of 10

2.This is one of my all-time favorite movies, and one of John Carpenter’s cult classics, IMHO. The original movie is already a very good one, but ever since i first watched it i had the feeling something was “missing” in the beggining, there wasn’t a specific backstory to Snake Plissken, other than what Hawk informs us of, in one of the early exposition scenes. Despite the fact that the movie “woks” without the “new” sequence – the fast initial pacing is a plus -, Tranzor’s edit provides an important part of the back-story, especially when the middle of the movie comes, and Snake comes across Brain. Technically speaking, the new scene was very well fitted to the beggining of the movie, and this edit has now become the “definitive edition” of EFNY, as far as i’m concerned – if it had the director’s commentary, it’d be perfect. Some may say it was a “simple project”, but i don’t see it that way: you still had to think about it and, more importantly, do it. 8,5 out of 10 stars, and good job, Tranzor.
