I read the book and saw the movie when it came out. In the day it was a cult classic. This version was immensely entertaining to watch and was a noticeable improvement over the theatrical release specifically because if you had not read the books, the theatre version would not make any sense as far as continuity or even plot for that matter. Well done, and btw the noticeable cut scenes were unavoidable and not in the least detracting from this, a true work of art.

This is Frank Herbert's Dune as is should have been released back in the 80s.

There is a bit of source material that isn't as well preserved as the rest of the available footage, yet its inclusion is most welcome as it helps the narrative greatly.

Perfectly edited and presented.

I've allways wanted to like Dune but found the previous versions to be too incomprehensible. This fixed that. I loved the book structure and the additional scenes even when the audio and video was not always great really added to the story.

EDIT: I actualy watched the Redux version of this edit. Oops!

I've been a fan of Lynch's Dune my whole life. I can remember seeing commercials for it when it was first released and being totally taken with the visuals. I was too young to see it in theatres sadly, but a few years later I finally saw it on video. A strange, wonderful, creepy and somehow unbalanced film. Years after I first saw the film I finally read the book and came to understand how far the film had diverged from the source material.

SpiceDiver's edit is nothing short of revelatory. The new book structure, the incorporation of extended and deleted scenes bring the film more in line with the book. I loved it. As a fan of both the original film and the novel I have no hesitation in saying that that this is now my definitive version of the film. SpiceDiver has turned Dune from a cinematic oddity and turned it into a film worthy to carry the title Dune.

Well done sir.

Thanks for reviewing my edit.

The version you watched is actually not this older version, but the more recent "Dune The Alternative Edition Redux" which is listed here: http://www.fanedit.org/ifdb/412-dune-the-alternative-edition-redux

A great experience and justifiably one of the all-time great fan-edits. Rescues David Lynch's vision of the novel from the trash bin of formerly terrible editing. I'm excited for the Villeneuve movie but now (and I never thought I'd say this) it looks like it'll have a hard time living up to the Lynch version.
