Brief Synopsis:
"In the year 2099, with the new millennium only 8 months away, a large, advanced, underwater salvage vessel known as Auriga 7 glides quietly, deep under the ocean surface. On board: a small military-detachment of engineers, their tech, and enough remaining provisions for several months. The few luxuries the crew had the Lieutenant would call contraband. But the men had their vices and much need to blow off a little steam now-and-again. It seemed to affect the Captain the most; the Lunar War back in 2075. With Earth's atmosphere forever crippled from it, and even though travel between Mars and the moons of Jupiter were becoming commonplace, the Boss rarely liked to surface, preferring to spend his time in the endless swaths of deep blackness. But the Captain may have to abandon the team’s current mission. Ship sensors have picked up an unknown signal that leads them into the furthest reaches of an uncharted abyss. Something stirs; waiting, lurking in the depth."
Intention:
While working on one of my future edits something funny happened. While editing in black & white, and actually removing these shots, one shot in particular flashes in front of me (see cover art) and ideas started flowing in my mind's eye about a whole new universe where Bill Paxton and a crew on a big underwater ship are searching for treasure in a war-torn future and they uncover a mystery and wake something up that's been slumbering deep under the ocean. I just had to see the story actualized through this edit.

This was a very much needed test and exercise for me at making trailers, but I also loved writing the world-building dystopian future at the same time. Going in I knew the edit had to be as clean looking visually as possible. It is meant to be part actually creepy and also part tongue-in-cheek funny since the source footage is Titanic.

This edit ultimately showcases a non-existent & hypothetically yet-unreleased film by way of a short trailer/teaser.
Additional Notes:
This edit uses footage from an existing film, re-contextualizes it to be as if from an entirely new and different film, uses new music and foley, barrows inspiration from the videogames Depth, Death Stranding, and Dead Space, as well as the Alien film franchise, A24 Films, and the film festival circuit. Fake and real credits were created and added at the end of the edit, as well as the programs I used to make it (+ Audacity). I made all the credits, festival logos, and artwork throughout. You can't just search your browser up for those exact logos how I've made them.

Special Features
I made alternate versions of the cover art, a blu-ray cover, as well a photo of my hand-written notes I made in pre-production that can be found here:

Editing Details:
The only footage used was from Titanic (1997), and it was used to make a creepy, atmospheric "A24 Films" movie trailer for a non-existent & hypothetically yet-unreleased film called DEPTH.
Cuts and Additions:
The specific footage used is of Bill Paxton's character and his team in the underwater submarines at the beginning of the film.
The footage was cut and edited to make it appear as if the small submarines they are in were maybe just a part of a much larger underwater ship or submarine.

This was a really fun experiment in creating a movie that doesn't exist! The editing was top notch, especially the title sequence, the letters coming in slowly as the crane hoists something from the depths. As someone else said the music was a little too loud over the dialogue in the beginning, but it was not horrible. The written backstory was very cool, and the visual component compliments it perfectly. It felt like I was seeing a trailer and then going home to look up everything I can about this super interesting movie coming out. Fun watch!

This is a neat concept and one that is probably worth pursuing beyond the trailer, should INIGHTMARES choose to go down that road. If he does, I'll gladly watch it.

What we have teased here is largely very well put together. One thing that threw me was at 1:20, where Paxton has a line that does not sync up with his mouth. The music is also considerably louder than it needs to be and overwhelms the dialogue. Visual quality is very nice, but parts of the audio have apparent artefacts. I assume some added elements are of a low bitrate and/or were possibly harmed during compression.

Loved the presentation of the titles/credits. Very slick. I assume the 'DEPTH' title was inspired by Alien. Nicely done.

When I first saw this...I just knew that I wanted to see the full movie...and I know it does not exist...and yet this has been so compelling assembled, that I refuse to believe that this movie won't exist at some point in the future.

Tremendous execution, imagination and use of audio and B&W and more...
Highly recommeded

Thank you for the kind words Wraith. This story is something I would love to expand on. If and or when I am able to find more footage like this to continue this I will! I have written some of my own canon for it already.
