Brief Synopsis:
This edit is as close to the original book's storyline as possible. Scenes had to be rearranged and all (but one) of the Oompa-Loompa-Songs were put at the end of each chapter. Nearly everything that doesn't happen in the book is cut.
Intention:
I love this movie, I love all of Tim Burton's movies (Besides 'Planet of The Apes'), I love the way Johnny Depp acts as Willy Wonka, but the first time I saw the movie I hated the singing Oompa-Loompas and Dr. Wonka bored me to death. So my first intention was to cut everything, that I didn't like. In the meantime I read the book by Roald Dahl. After finishing it, I decided to cut everything that is not in the book and rearrange the scenes so close to the original story line as possible. There are still some non-book scenes left, but only to keep some of the Burton/Depp weirdness in.
Additional Notes:
This is the movie, that s(c)hould have been made!

I haven't seen the original in a long while (though I remember the old 1971 version quite well) and what I do remember was that Depp's Wonka was creepy, the music was awful, and there was a lot of other junk thrown into it. Well, this edit fixes two of the three, which isn't bad. (The music is really quite irredeemable and, if the edit weren't trying to stay completely faithful to the book, should've been cut. But it would've been weird to have a Wonka film without the Oompa Loompas singing. It's just too bad the filmmakers couldn't have used songs more like the Gene Wilder film had.) It doesn't completely erase Depp's creepiness but makes it come off more socially awkward and just plain odd than outright insane.

I really liked the book-like intro with the stills and all, and I like that the ending was fixed so now Wonka doesn't try to make Charlie leave his family. Other than the occasional minor issue with the video quality (which didn't impede my enjoyment of the film whatsoever), I felt like this was a far better version than the original, and goes a long way to redeeming this mess of a film. I still recommend the 1971 film for any true Wonka fan, but if you're going to watch Depp as Wonka, this is a superior experience than the one that was released.

It's been years since I saw this film so I used this to reintroduce myself to it.
The visual quality is mediocre at times and could be fine-tuned with better sources.
I liked the subtitle exposition because it feels authentic to the source.
If anything, I think more exposition with subtitles could have benefited the aesthetic.
The pacing improved considerably with the cuts, making it easier to get through.
Lots of things I dislike have been removed, but I don't think it went far enough.
The Oompa Loompa songs are awful and can be cut out entirely.
They add nothing except bad musical interludes that interrupt the flow.
The best choices were to remove the dentist subplot and Wonka's backstory.
Charlie is toned down, which is nice, but the other kids cannot be salvaged.
Also, did anyone else remember Helena Bonham Carter in this? Surprised me.
This edit is more faithful to the book. Nevertheless, the 1971 film is so much better.
If you enjoyed this film to begin with, this is a better way to watch it, in my opinion.

I think it is an improvement on the original. I agree with the editor that the beginning could have been trimmed down and could have just started with the film itself. But overall the start of the film feels a lot faster in pace than the original. I'm glad the whole Willy Wonka and Dentist Dad has completely gone, as much as I love Christopher Lee.

I think the editor should do a second fan edit of this and make a more drastic edit.....a version completely void of the songs. I think it needs to be done as the songs are all simply awful. I was hoping they would be because I was very happy that the puppet theatre was gone - why didn't they make an alternative (and better) scene opener for Willy Wonka? God only knows....But alas I was too hopeful when it came to removing the songs. They are all still here, unfortunately.

One final note on fan editing, I think if another fan edit version were to be made then it should definitely cut down that annoying Mike Teavee to an absolute minimum. I think his demise in the TV room scenes should be shortened right down if possible. Please someone do it!

As for the editing and audio itself for this. I didn't have any problems. I think it was very clever how things were moved around especially during the songs. Nothing made me question or stand out on the screen in a bad way - so the fan editor has overall done a good job!

Foreword: I haven't seen the original in sometime, which I prefer for watching edits and I also didn't review the changes (log) ahead of watching, which I also prefer. I looked at the edit list back when I downloaded the edit, but I like to not know what I'm walking into; I don't watch an edit for a few months or more after downloading it.

What I liked: The edit felt stream lined but still entertaining. I didn't feel like anything was missing with the storyline.

What I didn't: I would have had it ending with the elevator blasting off and then explain what was next for Charlie like in the book. Also, some of the subtitles (narration) you added felt redundant at times and others scenes would have benefited with some narration. An example: you explain what each child is like but I think it is very obvious what type of child they are by their intros. You can contact me if you want some more specifics.

Overall: I enjoyed this but didn't feel it would replace the original. I would recommend people check this out if looking for a different take on this movie, otherwise I'd stay with the classic version.

Extra: Some of the scenes cut in were a lot lower quality, which is not your fault and made them standout. The new footage might blend better with the main footage, if the main footage was slightly lower quality too? Just a thought.
Lastly, keep up the good work!

This edit was quite a bit of fun, but sadly had it's technical issues :(

It's amazing that this movie is already ten years old, before I never really liked Tim Burton's take on the story and always preferred the original but this movie has grown on me although I still had problems with it. This edit eliminates most of the issues seamlessly, Willy Wonka's dad is gone (thank god), strange humour is gone, and Charlie is no longer the most saint-like child on the damn planet. The movie did confuse me at the beginning with the extremely long introduction that contained really long stills that explains the characters but I think the same thing could have been done just with the narration at the intro and just leaving out the description of the other kids as we just meet them when Charlie does later in the film. I understand that this is a "book cut" but it doesn't literally have to be 100% on par with what the book says, especially when it's just the prologue.

Audio/Video Quality:
Sadly needs improvement, the movie comes in a 4:3 format even though the original footage used was obviously widescreen because everything looks so narrow (of course I fixed this with some quick tv settings but the edit should come with the proper aspect ratio)

The edit also drops in resolution in scenes where footage is re-arranged and modified during the songs to remove the kid that the Oompa-Loompas are singing about, this really is noticeable and takes me out of the experience

Editing:
Seamless other than the resolution problem mentioned earlier

Narrative:
Simpler, better, more fun, fast paced movie.

Enjoyment:
The movie was definitely improved but technical issues need to be addressed.
