It's been a while since I've watched the original version of this one, but I do recall it being somewhat long and overwrought for what should be a fast-paced adventure spree. I had to come back and look at the changes list to remind me of what TM2YC had cut out.

As other reviewers have noted: I didn't notice the removed parts. I had completely forgotten the black spot and love triangle subplots, and the movie is the better without them. Between those deletions and the rearranging, the movie moved at a quick pace, had a straightforward plot, and was the fun romp it wanted to be. There's a couple of very minor details that crop up due to the edit--the one I specifically noted while watching was "how and when did Jack lose his hat?" but I'll take those with the huge improvement in pacing and story.

The video and audio edits are flawless, there's no point that I could say where the edit was made. I'm a little disappointed audio was just stereo, but it still sounded good.

Dead Man's Chest is a movie that I feel is underrated. It's not as good as the first one, but its better than the mediocre 4 and the terribly disappointing 3.

After hearing about these edits, as a POTC fan I quickly downloaded it. Can't say I quickly watched it but after a while I did watch it, and I can say that this is a pretty good alternative.

First off, I liked the new color correction, however the sky and sea was too green that it distracted me. While the original was mostly green it wasn't distracting, here it was because I guess getting rid of the other greens higlighted the rest. That being said, it's not terrible. It is good. The quality was great, the editing was flawless.

About the narrative, not much is changed, except the 12 minute deleted sequence. I understand why it was cut but in my first time viewer eyes I had many questione in my head like "How did Bootstrap end up in the Flying Dutchman?" or "Where is Jack's hat?" or after the Kraken spits it, "When and how did Jack lose his hat?"

The only problem I had with the movie was the love triangle, and how it's gone here is great.

Watching the 12 minute sequence is necessary for me. Then the problem I had is gone, but then it's replaced with; "What happened to the black spot?" I know this may be a nitpick to some audiences, but to me it's important. The black spot is for the Kraken, as explained in the sequence. When it is gone after the deleted sequence, it's unsatisfying.

So basically my feelings with the edit is the same with the theatrical. My choice of which version will be on my shelf depends on The Song of the Brethren Court. If that edit is as good as I hope, then The Heart of Davy Jones and The Song of the Brethren Court will replace Dead Man's Chest and At World's End on my shelf. Otherwise Dead Man's Chest will remain and I will have to do my own edit of At World's End ;)

SIDE NOTE: I won't be doing an edit of Dead Man's Chest if the above circumstance is the case. With only 10 minutes cut it would be pointless to cut, export, upload, submit etc.. Some things, you just gotta force yourself to bear. (This is why Dead Man's Chest Shaved is unnoticed and the only person who did see it rated it low)

Gosh, this was terrific! I never cared much for any of the "Pirates" movies past the first one due to them being over-long, unpleasant to look at, and damn near incomprehensible. I'm happy to say that TM2YC has redeemed this one for me in a big way. The color correction? Perfect. The restructuring and simplification of the plot? Inspired. And it's funny, while one of my major complaints about the theatrical cut of Dead Man's Chest was the preponderance of lengthy, ridiculous action sequences, here they didn't bother me at all! Even though the editor left all of these scenes relatively untouched, the length of these scenes doesn't grate in the same way (at least for me). I think the reason for this is the improved pacing. Since it now doesn't take forever to get through every single scene, and since the plot is so streamlined, these sequences now feel like logically-placed, epic set-pieces instead of just one more thing that's getting in the way and slowing the narrative down.

I only have a couple of negative things to say, and they are very minor. Firstly, for a movie called "Captain Jack Sparrow and the Heart of Davy Jones" the titular pirate feels awfully sidelined. It's not a criticism of the cuts, as they were all well chosen, but since the movie focuses much more on Will and Elizabeth, it's hard to really see this as Jack's adventure. And lastly (yes this really is it), I will echo the sentiment of other reviewers that, while I like the new ending, it does end rather abruptly, meaning the final moment doesn't land properly.

All in all, though, this is a very professional and enjoyable edit and a much more worthy follow-up to the first film. I highly recommend watching it, and in the best possible quality for your setup.

There are two reasons I didn't really notice that there had been things removed from this edit: I haven't watched "Dead Man's Chest" in full for a number of years, and TM2YC's editing was that great. Watching this edit, it was readily apparent just how bloated the original film is. Nothing that was cut I especially noticed or missed, minus the scenes involving the black spot and Jack's first meeting with Bootstrap Bill, plus the whole process of getting the drawing the key. That said, I only noticed after they would have already transpired, so no loss there.

However, I did have a thought as to the appropriateness of the title "The Adventures of Jack Sparrow." Seeing as this is supposed to be a series about Jack, it would seem appropriate that there would be more scenes concerning him and perhaps fewer concerning other characters. It's not really until "On Stranger Tides" that Jack really takes center stage. A minor quibble about something that is on screen for ten seconds, but hey, I have to say something critical right?

The editing was incredibly well done, save for two moments: the transition from "DAMN YOU JACK SPARROW!" to Tia Dalma's hut didn't quite work, and as was mentioned previously, the final cut to the credits was a little quick. There could have been an extra shot of Beckett looking smug or maybe the heart beating on his desk.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this edit. It was a fun adventure romp that the films have tried to be but failed at due to their bloated running times. The quality of the MKV I watched was very good, but I would certainly love a version of this mastered for Blu-ray. You know, for science. I heartily recommend this edit and I'm really looking forward to the next installment!

This is an extremely well done edit. Flawless execution with no noticeable cuts. I loved this version of the movie and will never have to watch the original again because this edit so firmly supplants it in my mind.

This edit makes PotC2 feel as exciting and fast paced as the original. This is mostly due to the removal of the painfully slow and boring sequence that TM2YC includes as a supplemental feature "How Jack Lost His Hat". The characterization and story telling has been dramatically improved especially in the stomach turning sections where Elizabeth and Jack were previously seen flirting. There was no reason for this to exist in the first place, did anyone ever believe Elizabeth was going to abandon Will for Jack?

The flow of the movie was brilliant. TM2YC moved a number of shots and not a single one was noticible. When I first watched the original I remember being bored to tears about a half hour in, this is no longer the case. The only qualm I have with the edit and the reason I gave it a 9 for enjoyment was that the extremely long series of fight sequences that close out the movie are almost entirely left intact. After watching nearly a half hour of constant battle with almost no reprieve it really drains on me as the viewer and I would have liked to have seen this tightened up.

Other than that this was a fantastic edit I especially appreciated the fantastic new beginning and ending choices. Great work!
