Birthday Presents

I have still not seen Peeping Tom - I know, I know... Anyway, this short film makes me want to order the movie now!

I absolutely love Michael Powell's "Peeping Tom". It's a masterpiece, but to be honest the parts I was most bored by were the, big surprise here, romantic moments. Who knew that if you took out the serial killing and just focused on the awkward love story, it makes for a great little short. A wonderful job done by TM2YC.

Gazing through the window. Skulking about silently, avoiding conversation. Secret projector room featuring reels of explicit nudity. Stalker? Pervert? Serial killer? No, no, no. A far lower, more contemptible example of humanity: a fan editor.

But seriously, this is fantastic. Socially awkward, Mark longs for the emotions he can only experience vicariously through the magic of cinema. A beautiful little story, enhanced through the magnificent music of Ennio Morricone. Touching stuff, especially considering the source material!

A nice short that is quite a transformation from the source material. The editing is very well done. Narratively, Mark still comes off like a bit of a psycho in the beginning. There is a slight implication that he might be watching porn or snuff. Having him view something a bit tamer might have better sold that he was just a lonely, but harmless guy. A minor point though, and there is a lot of great editing on display!

This is a very enjoyable fanedit. I have no idea where the cuts are at all, so great job. I was fortunate to preview this a while back and I thought it played as off-kilter charming and I really enjoyed the dynamic. The tension was building and building up to him putting on the reel. I sought out the source 'Peeping Tom' and was absolutely shocked to find what the film is about. I thought it was excellent, and to carve out a romantic, pleasant short with that subject matter is wonderful. It's a good example of what fanediting can be. I really enjoyed rewatching it; great job. As a bonus, it's fun to see where the TM2YC intro comes from, as well.
