Brief Synopsis:
Set in the Mayan civilization, when a man's idyllic presence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, he is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life.
Intention:
The original movie is pretty perfect in my eyes but I was curious to see if I could cut the dialogue from the film and it still retain its power and narrative. While it wasn't possible to completely remove dialogue I have trimmed about 60% of it and subtitled the dialogue where I felt it was necessary. The removal of a lot of dialogue and a faster pace now means the movie run-time is 111 minutes cut down 28 minutes from the original 139 minute version.
Special Thanks:
A massive thanks to SSJ for previewing the edit.

Editing Details:
I considered going the silent route with this but in the end went for a more streamlined version of the original film.. I wanted the edit to work purely on its visuals, music and ambient sound with as little dialogue as possible (when used subtitles are hardcoded).
Cuts and Additions:
There are numerous edits to remove dialogue throughout the movie but these are the significant cuts:

- Ball cutting scene trimmed
- Soanzo leaf discussion cut
- Jaguar Paws wife first introduction cut
- Evening Tribal ceremony partially cut
- Village raid trimmed
- Cliffhanger partially cut
-First night captured cut
- Encounter with diseased prophet girl partially cut
- Trip to the pyramid partially cut
- Sacrificial Ceremony trimmed
- Run to the corn trimmed
- Final Chase sequence numerous trims throughout
- Epilogue cut

A/V: Great quality and a fairly small file size, audio was good. A/V cuts were seamless, expertly done. Subs were little quick sometimes but mostly fine, and there weren't too many of them.

I liked the approach of cutting dialogue, in fact I would've gone even further.
I felt that some of the character development scenes from early on are missed, although i understand they had to go to keep dialogue minimal.
Did not really feel most of the cuts, honestly surprised that 24 minutes have been removed.
Overall, the higher pace and reduced dialogue builds on Mel Gibson's frantic, nightmarish experience. Very enjoyable watch, especially if you want a quicker version of the film, and a very strong fanedit from Sinbad. Apocalypto is an incredible film in its own right, and although the plot is the same, I recommend having watched the original before going into this one.

Overview - A trim of Mel Gibson’s naturalistic masterpiece, removing much of the dialogue.

Video - 1280 X 696p AVC. Image is razor sharp, cutting is excellent.

Audio - 512 kbps AAC 2 Channel stereo. Subs, limited. For a film such as this (big action, high adventure) I would have preferred 5.1 sound, I am not editing, however, and most editors choose stereo. Subs are more problematic. Sinbad has cut a swath of them. The film holds, as does the narrative. The remaining subtitles are poorly timed. Most are short, way too short. They should have been given a once-over in something like SubtitleEdit before hard coding.

Narrative - As mentioned earlier, the edit, despite heaving cutting, is coherent and straightforward, especially to those who have watched the original. Most passed by unnoticed, save for one at the end.

Enjoyment - Yes, though primarily as watching an exercise. The edit is well done, though I don’t see it as essential, or one that I would watch more than a few times in the next decade.
