Ant-Man: The Pym Particle Partition

Everything looked and sounded great aside from at 34:45, where Hank’s voice makes a noticeable change — that’s my only real audio complaint.

I agree with recordwrangler95 as far as the abruptness in the transition between Scott talking to Luis and then being at the door for Cassie’s party. Maybe move the audio of Scott saying “I’ve got a daughter to take care of” from 02:45 to over Luis’ reaction at 06:30.. then some establishing shot(s) of a nice neighborhood in San Fran. This way there’s an audible queue for where we’re going as well as a visual one.

Recordwrangler’s point about the goat scene is one I sort of disagree with — I think we just cut all the goats. Cutting the remaining one keeps the exposure to Cross limited for the time-being, which keeps from it going from 0-100 too quickly and removes the continuity issue with his and Hope’s clothing.

Right around that time is also when Hank mentions the Avengers “dropping cities out of the sky,” which I personally would consider editing only because it allows for Ant-Man to, without eagle eyes, take place in a perhaps earlier moment in the watch order.. but that doesn’t affect my rating at all.

The only other thing I really take issue with is removing Scott v Falcon. It isn’t fundamental to the plot, necessarily, but it’s a fun scene that gets paid off via a couple lines of dialogue in Civil War that, with this edit, make no sense.

Everything else flowed incredibly well, particularly the reintegration of deleted scenes. They were seamlessly added to the movie and narratively made up for the earlier scenes with Cross and Hank that were removed. The post-credits scene was incredible as well hahaha

Over all, despite its success in reintegrating deleted scenes, this version of the edit could use a bit of continuity/pacing work to make it a replacement for the original film at this time.

This fanedit keeps the focus where it belongs: on Scott Lang, the main character. We follow along with him as he experiences the world, rather than jumping in early on Hank Pym and all the wranglings over the technology of the suit.

The cuts and edits are flawless. I definitely recommend this fanedit and enjoy it more than the theatrical version. Good job, Bobson!

I really like the focus of this edit, which lets you learn about Hank, Cross and all the tech through Scott's experiences rather than flashbacks and other scenes. It feels like a more natural way of storytelling with the only story drawback being that Cross is pretty sidelined and more one-dimensional.

And I understand why you cut it, but I personally think the fight at the Avengers compound could have been left in. Just a personal preference though. Overall fantastic work and would highly recommend!

The intention of this edit (removing most MCU references and centralizing Scott Lang) is a great idea and for the most part, it works. Bobson's choice in cutting the prologue and letting the audience discover Hank Pym along with Scott is a terrific one. However, almost inevitably, some SHIELD/Stark referenes make their way in and it deflates the insular world that is being careful created here. It feels like a tantalizing glimpse at the Edgar Wright version while still being bogged down in MCU continuity.

A couple of other notes: the lack of an establishing shot when we go from Luis' apartment to Cassie's birthday party felt a little jarring; the introduction of Darren Cross (while I like the idea of leaving him until later to emphasize Scott) feels a little late to introduce the antagonist and his excitement over his not-exploding goat seems a bit strange. I wonder if a cutaway to Cross' failed experiments with VO while Hank is explaining Cross' backstory might have been an elegant solution here?

Regardless, a very good fan-edit in all that moves better than the original version, while not being seamless enough to be a complete shelf replacer. However a second version might just be what's needed. (It worked for Ant-Man himself!)

I am a HUGE fan of the original film and was very intrigued by the idea of this edit. Regarding the quality of the editing, this is top notch! No abrupt or awkward cuts to be found, and no issues whatsoever with sound quality. Narratively, there are some elements I really love with this edit. Cutting out the prologue and earlier scenes featuring Darren, Hope, or Hank really gave this film an interesting plot path. Adding in mystery that didn't exist before. As you focus in more on Scott's journey, Hank comes across as a character with motivations that aren't spoon fed to you from the start of the film, letting HIM tell his own story once it becomes necessary. I found this incredibly satisfying. I wouldn't say this film is a replacement, as I did miss some of the removed plot elements involving Darren and his ruthlessness, crude experiments, and ambition turning into madness. I always enjoyed the film's detour to the Avengers campus and Falcon cameo, so I did find myself missing that sequence but the absence of that sequence didn't harm the narrative here, since it was always unnecessary to the story (just fun, so that's really just personal preference) Lastly, removing the post credit scene/tie-in to Civil War was also a nice touch, making this stand out more as it's own story. The post credit scene that replaces it...really put a smile on my face. Overall, excellent work here.
