Another great edit from Malthus. My thoughts on the original theatrical cut was it was an average, the action was fine, the villain was pretty good and it was one of the more weaker die hard movies. This edit definitely upped my enjoyment of the movie by seamlessly integrating the deleted scenes, giving the movie much better colour grading and having better larger subtitles. The rescoring done was also top notch the "New York, New York" sequence which was just fantastic- really felt like an iconic moment. One nitpick I have though is the car park deleted scene in which the punching sound effects were a bit cartoonish like it was from street fighter- why the director or movie editor put those effects on the deleted scene is beyond me. Overall if like me you found Die Hard 5 pretty meh and want to revisit it for a die hard marathon this is the edit for you to replace the theatrical version.

I enjoyed it as when I watched the trilogy as a child.
I know this fifth installment of the adventures of John McClane is not the best accepted, but it worked well for me. The practical effects of this film are impressive and the story that editor Malthus developed works best.

- My only objection is the long duration of the music "New York", but the rest is perfect.

I have been a big fan of all Die Hard movies and to this day I'm not sure why Die Hard 4 get so much flak as its one of my favorites. However, when I first watched Die Hard 5 a few years ago I found it to be a fun action movie but very mediocre Die Hard movie due to poorly written script and some character decisions (eg Jack instantly becoming unlikable as he points a gun at his father). I appreciate what Malthus has done in this edit by adding the extra deleted scenes, larger subtitles and color grading and it certainly does improve the film quite a lot. I do recommend this edit if you found DH5 to be a meh film and have desire to revisit as the improvements does make a difference.

I really enjoyed this edit. Die hard is one of my favorite film franchises. A Good Day to Die Hard was definitely at the bottom of the list. This is still not the greatest movie, but it is much improved and will go into my library and replace the original, which will never be seen or heard from again.
It is just personal preference I know, but the only knock I gave to this edit was for the New York, New York song added. It was perfect the way it started in the cab, it was also perfect the way it ended with the explosion. My issue was with the length, it seemed to go on and on. I think a trim in the middle would have helped.

Great edit, but the film is still very flawed.
The edit does everything well technically - the color regrade looks much better (what was up with the green tint, seriously?), the re-scored courthouse scene is a really nice touch, and the deleted scenes add some extra McClane to the film. Their integration is smooth - except for one noticeable jump cut at 40:42 (upon entering the gun shop).
I took down a point on enjoyment because the edit did not make me appreciate the film any better. I still think what this film really needs is a major trim rather than an extension.
All in all - good work!

Hi Bo, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I just wanted to let you know I have addressed the issue at 40:42. The final frame of the group walking to the gun store was accidentally zoomed in presumably a hangover from when I adjusted the aspect ratio of the deleted scenes. I imagine that is what made it stand out for you. I'll admit I hadn't noticed how abruptly the audio changes in that scene but that is how it occurs in the original scene and is not my doing. I'm currently re-encoding this now. I'd like to add that I really appreciate the fairness of your review. I'd definitely love to spitball ideas with you about what you would cut to improve the film, potentially I can't implement them for an alternative cut some day.

Thanks again, Malthus.
