Brief Synopsis:
With Flash Gordon, along with his faithful companions, Dale Arden and Doctor Zarkov, having twice before thwarted his evil plans for conquest of the universe, Ming the Merciless renews his assault on the Earth, this time by coating the inhabited portions of the planet with a deadly dust, which strikes its victims down with the unyielding Purple Death.

Flash, Dale, and Zarkov must journey through the far reaches of space to the forest kingdom of Arboria, on the planet Mongo, to enlist the aid of Prince Barin and his Tree Men, where, with the additional assistance of Queen Fria of Frigia and her soldiers, Flash and his friends must discover a way to put a stop to the Purple Death and disrupt the nefarious plans of Ming and his minions.

This is a feature-length cut of the 1940 public domain serial 'Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe', with Larry "Buster" Crabbe, Carol Hughes, Charles Middleton, Frank Shannon, and Anne Gwynne. Despite the dodgy science, improbable escapes, cheesy special effects, sometimes wooden acting, and juvenile story, 'Flash Gordon: Ming Strikes Back' provides a glimpse into how 'Star Wars' may have looked to an audience in 1940.

Brief Synopsis:
This edit cuts out what I consider to be the most egregiously silly bits in SUPERMAN IV, and cuts in portions of the deleted footage from the extras (which is in execrable condition, BTW) that helped fill out the story. Of course, this still leaves plenty of dumb stuff in the movie. But the entire plot is essentially two parts dumb to one part tedious, so if one were to cut out all of the "dumb" one would only be left with a very short, tedious film. My hope is that I've kept enough of the dumb stuff to make the viewing experience at least bearable.

Brief Synopsis:
After viewing an initial cut of director Tod Browning's Dracula in late 1930, Universal Pictures president Carl Laemmle, Sr complained that the film gave him the "Heebie-jeebies" and ordered that it be re-edited. Several minutes of film were cut and a number of scenes were rearranged, resulting in numerous continuity errors and giving the third act a glacial pace. Although the missing footage remains lost, this edit restores the continuity established in the original shooting script (and Melford's simultaneously shot Spanish-language version of Dracula) eliminating most of the continuity errors and quickening the film's pace in the third act.

Two versions of my fanedit are available on the DVD. One using film elements taken solely from the release version of Browning's film (the "purist" edition), and a second incorporating additional cut scenes and alternate footage taken from the Spanish-language version of the film directed by George Melford and shot on Browning's sets at night.
